I was just messing with you Penny4Me. Everyone should throw $10 in a pot along with their guess as to what this is going to sell for and the closest person to the actual sale price wins the pot therefore having enough cash to buy one for themselves next time round.

Quote: So the 2006P non-mag was a steal at $300-$500 a couple of years back. Now you're just paying "full retail price". I think at $2000-$3000 it has reached its full potential and is unlikely to appreciate from there. Given that over 60 have been certified in mint state condition by ICCS alone, I fully expect the price to drop. It is cheaper to buy a 1944 MS-65, and those are actually scarce. I pity the person who paid $3500 for this coin...

To be fair though SPP, while the 1944 is obviously rare in MS65, they are relatively common in MS64. No problem to get one for $100 or so. And in MS 63.....no issue at all. $3500 seems like an awful lot though.

I am not r..9...however, bidding pattern looks like he wants to discourage bidding, by getting the price high early...

I can hardly wait! What I cant really grasp is why I am so excited about seeing a coin sell that isn't mine.

From reading this thread it looks like someone is trying to corner the market on these things.

Littlemoney, I'm very excited about the auction of this penny for three reasons 1. It will serve as a Benchmark for others sales that follow. 2. Someone on this forum may be fortunate enough to win and own this rare cent 3. I need to find out what the true value of this coin is for obvious reasons.

Smallcentguy You might have something here... '''The absence of any lower grades at all is intriguing to me. Maybe one roll and a few odd loose ones?''' MS64 - 17; MS65 - 21; MS66 - 33; MS67 - 2 with all these high grades, MS66 = 33, it does appear that almost all of these 2006p coins were taken directly out of a mint roll or maybe even PL/UNC sets then sent to ICCS. Maybe one person owns 90% of these? Do you know of anyone that just found one in their pocket change? Something seems fishy here...
