Soooo ... background is that I received today my expected order of 4 US Mint coins ... 2 each US Army and Medal of Honor silver dollar ... each issue in Uncirculated and Proof strike. I'm thrilled with the coins ... but my concern here is why the US Mint shipped as well two items I did not request and pay for? Wondering if anyone else is getting freebies from the US Mint. My package contained the two following freebies ... 2010 Presidential dollar Proof Set ... Coins inside the folder are as follows ... As if that was not enough ... I also received what appears to be Mint/Postal Service combination ... opened a thick white folder to reveal the following ... Soooo ... wondering what is the best way to return these coins to the US Mint ... I did not order them and did not pay for them. I have no clue on how to send them back since I have no invoice validating I purchased them. Would appreciate any and all advise on who/how to contact to explain this mistake and return the coins. Anyone else receiving freebies from the US Mint? David

likely a mistake, but unless they want to cover return shipping, I'd keep them....

Hard to say if they did it on purpose .. or by mistake. In 1995 I ordered a proof eagle, it ended up being sold out. To make it up to me they sent me a 1995 BU ASE .. which I still have.

I would email the mint and ask them. I received extra items on an order from another supplier, emailed them, then sent the items back. They sent a check to pay me back for the shipping.

Give them a call and explain the situation to them just like you posted it here. Normally, nowadays, a lot of companies just tell you to keep the extra since it was their mistake and, a lot of the time, the paperwork and shipping is not worth it to them. But... (ominous music playing here) ... maybe its actually is a joint plot by the IRS & mint to nail you! I would check the plastic cases to see if any micro-spy cameras are embedded somewhere... Don't mess with the feds! If you quit posting within the nest week, we will know what happened!

IN-ter-Esting..... I wonder who did that... You can mail them to me if you want, or if want you can send them back, they probably belong to someone else. Funny thing, I was just tonight charged $.24 less at Home Depot but when I tried to pay back the guy said don't worry about it.

Well, due to the fact that we are all paying for them, it would be nice if you returned them. I know some people think the government has money, but the only money they have is taken from the taxpayers.

Seems their quality control is off somewhere in the packaging process. The honest thing to do would be to call the #800 and explain the situation and see what the CSR says. It might be too much trouble for them to audit that particular order and pinpoint a specific employee, potentially getting him or her in trouble, in which case the "right" thing to do is to leave the order as is. It's one thing if an item was billed and invoiced was not received in the shipment. Generally, per the USPS rules, if you receive a package/items addressed to you which you didn't order, it is considered a gift. There aren't too many free gifts from Uncle Sam, so...I'd do whatever my conscience dictates!

In all honesty I probably wouldn't send them back, but I can see why you would want to just call them or email them explaining what happened. I would be willing to bet that they let it slide without any problem and you will keep the coins anyway, but ya never know

Sooo ... I called the 1-800 number and spoke with a helpful person named Teri. Explained what I had received and my desire to return the coins. Teri advised that I return them to the Plainfield IN address with a note enclosed referencing the order # and that I received these in error. Regarding return postage .... I am supposed to save a receipt and mail it off to the same address requesting payment. Not quite sure that will actually work. Anyways .... I'll package them up and send them off tomorrow ... even if I lose out in the postage refund at least I can look myself in the mirror. David

I was going to say to call the number and see what they say, but I see you have already done so. I think they will repay you for the return postage or at least credit you for it as this was their error. Kudos for being honest enough to report their error to them, I am sure most wouldn't have been so honest and it says allot about your character. I would have done the same thing even though I know I would be one of the few people that would do the same, so its good to see someone else that feels the same. I think its funny that if these others paid for an item and didn't receive it they would definitely call them but as soon as it comes out in their favor they don't do the same
