OK, I definitely need some help here. I bought the Hot Springs from the mint. I am probably going to buy the Yellowstone today as well. I see the Gettysburg selling for approx $200.00 from a particular bullion dealer. Was this one for sale by the mint in the past? Was it $279.00 from the mint? Would I be better off waiting for this one to hit the secondary market and possibly get it for a lot less? I am confused.....Can anyone help clarify this a bit for me. I have only bought proof sets and the High relief St Gaudens from the mint in the past. I don't understand how they are selling these.

Gettysburg is not a "P" mintmark, it is buillon, not available from the Mint. The other 2 are "P" mintmarks available from the mint.

In some ways I hope the Mint keeps a premium on their pricing of about $50 to $60 going forward.

Here is why -- This will folks who want to collect the coin a better shot at getting one and will keep the folks playing the bullion value game out of the mix (less competition).

I waited until to day to buy my Yellowstone (NP2) from the mint. I saw that they still had some available and I did not want to play in the game like what had happen for Hot Springs.

Numismatic there are two versions of the 5 oz ATB Silver coins: one from the AP dealers for bullion coins and one from the mint for Uncirculated coins. It is kind of ironic that the AP's are currently cheaper than the mint's version. I am also more fond of the bullion version it looks cleaner and has more frosting on the coins. The AP's are on coins #5 and #6, while the Mint is currently on Coin #2; both by the end of the year will on coin #8. I hope this kind of helps.

APs are currently selling bullion #6 & #7, with #8 Olympic available to ordered from the mint 5/23. Bullion will end the year on coin #10. The numismatic versions, at least for #1 & #2, occurred three weeks apart, so it's possible that all five 2010 coins will be sold within a three month span, with another three month span for 2011 numismatic versions to the end of November.

If the pricing remains $279.95, the cost is $1400 for the first five coins, $2800 for all ten. It's quite ambitious to want to try to collect all ten coins, twenty if you are also considering the bullion versions. 100 oz. of non-duplicating silver.

Thanks Bizyback for correcting me you got my back. I was wrong on the numbers but I was trying to explain to Numismatic that this year is an anomaly with these coins.

I wonder if anyone will collect all 112(56 bullion + 56 numismatic) of these? That would be a serious hoard of silver.

It would be an ideal excuse to hoard silver... 50 oz. a minimum for 10 years... Just taking one year at a time, a combined 2010/2011 now $2,800.00 for the numismatic coins, plus AT LEAST $2,000.00 for the 10 bullion coins. Better have deep pockets, this year at least!

@Bearcoinin: I knew what you were trying to say. It can be a confusing series with all of the misinformation from the Mint itself.

Thanks for the replies. I understand now. I just ordered the Yellowstone. Shipping 6/2. I will have to look around to find the best place to buy the bullion coins. I did see them at Gainesville for a good price-about $200 each. Any other suggestions?

APMEX has them with fairly high premiums & high shipping, but they have the greatest diversity of PM products I find. Provident Metals is slightly higher than Gainsville, but you can send a check or money order, and is offset by lower shipping, whereas the latter is bank wire over $2K or credit card only. Those are the only three bullion resellers I use, aside from the one-off APs for the initial 2010 bullion coins.

I agree...Provident and Gainsville are your best bet for silver bullion.

Gainsville gets a slight edge for price but only if you pay by CC since they don't deal with checks.

APMEX is significantly higher across the board

I ordered my 2011 Gettysburg and Glacier today from Gainesville they were up to $210 coin but I still saved money over A-Mark which has those same coins for a total of $669.95 when I receive them. I will keep you posted on the coins and their packaging. I ordered the 2010 5 coin set from A-Mark and they were beautiful coins and great packaging. I just could not pay the extra $230 for the convenience of shopping with same vendor.

I need some help understanding what is going on, please.

The Mint is selling collector versions (27k mintage with P mint mark) of the ATB bullion, correct? But they are selling the 2010 designs...in 2011. Were these coins minted in 2010 and only now being sold? Or are they being minted in 2011?

If the latter is true, am I the only one really uncomfortable with the idea of the Mint creating products with a prior date? Seems like a really bad precedent to me. Why not go back and do Statehood Quarters in 5oz of silver too? Why not mint some more 95-W ASEs or 06 ASE reverse proofs?

I just think it's an awful idea to be minting products with any date other than the current one.

Am I wrong?
