Monster Die Crack? - Coin Community Forum

Jeff Pillar of the Community Australia 877 Posts	Posted 05/19/2011 12:11 am When I found this Victoria 20¢ I thought "what a pity it has that big scratch" and put it in a bag with my spares. I have now had another look and the "scratch" seems to be in relief (raised). Could it be a very large die crack from a die on the verge of breaking in two? Or is it some type of post mint damage? The line looks too straight to be a random scratch. Jeff Report this Post to the Staff

I was thinking it could be a planchet flaw where the metal hasn't quite lifted to show the split, but there would not be two identical, so if a second one surfaces, it's pretty certain it came from the mint in that condition.
