What a great theme Ceylon. So here's my first quickie before I have a real trawl through my collection. Robert the Bruce, King of the Scots.

First trawl in alphabetical order by country. I'm missing out all the Commonwealth countries featuring QE II. 1. Shaikh Hamad bin Issa al Khalifa (King of Bahrain). 2. King Baudouin I and Queen Fabiola (Belgium). 3. King Jigme Doriji Wangchuk (Bhutan). 4. King Jigme Singye Wangchuk (Bhutan). 5. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah I (Brunei). 6. Sultan Jam'Asr Hassan Bolkiah I (Brunei). 7. King Norodom Sihanouk (Cambodia). 8. King Premysl Otakar I (Czech Republic). 9. King Karel IV (Czech Republic).

I had a feeling you would have some to post. Hopefully others post some as well. #8 and #9 look like characters from Hairy Potter

Okay, so if nobody else is biting, here are a few more. One might argue that some are dubious (eg. Ghengis Khan - in the next posting) but they started or were part of great dynasties and let's face it most royal houses were founded on the rule of the strongest then followed by accident of birth. Queen Nefertiti (Egypt). Ramases II (Egypt). King V. Gorgosal (Georgia). I think this might be George V. King Mohammed V of Morocco (Guinea). Don't know why he should be there. King Robert Karoly (Hungary). Ferenc Rakoczi II (Hungary). A Prince of Transylvania. King Matyas (Hungary). Prince Gabor Bethlen (Hungary). King St. Stephan (Hungary). My, they do like their royals there! Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Iran). Ceylon - not too familiar with Harry Potter I thought more Lord of the Rings! More royals in a couple of days.

Ceylon, I enjoyed seeing how many banknotes you have with the Queen on them! I started a similar collection about a month ago and now have six banknotes with her image and hopefully that number will increase , in upcoming months.

Queen Elizabeth on 1/2 dollar banknote from The Bahamas. I was lucky to buy the banknote for $7.75 since it has a catalog value of $40.

Next instalment... King Vittorio Emanuele III (Italy). King Hussein (Jordan). King Abdullah I (Jordan). King Talal ibn Abdullah (Jordan). King Sejong the Great (Korea -- South). King Sisavang Vong (Laos). King Savang Vatthana (Laos). King Stefan (Moldova). Genghis Khan (Mongolia). Kings Mohammed V, Mohammed VI and Hassan II (Morocco). Very unusual to find 3 on one note! More to come anon.

Vic, nice notes....at some point I have to diversify away from QE II and pick some others up.
Monedas, I prefer the older QE II portraits like you posted. For some reason on the recent currency releases her portrait is somehow messed up. It's like they hurried to get a portrait on the notes and her pic is not as elegant.

Yes Ceylon, I've noticed that too but nowadays... There tends to be a lot more detail in the engravings More and deeper/brighter colours are used And finally she is getting on a bit now!

Some of the above notes are very good-looking. But I myself avoid such banknotes. I have an emotional aversion to royalty and monarchy. It's the anarchist in me that's speaking. But I find some of these notes to be so handsome that I might start collecting them. :D

And yet some more royals. Sultan Saladdin (Syria). Emperor Philip (the Arab) of Rome (Syria). Queen Zenobia (Syria). King Naresuan the Great (Thailand). King Taksin (Thailand). Kings Rama I and Rama II (Thailand). King Rama V (Thailand). King Rama VI (Thailand). King Rama VII (Thailand). King Rama VIII (Thailand). King Rama IX and Queen Sirikit (Thailand). And before anybody comments the King Taksin was from the 18th century (although it does make one wonder just what the ultimate ambitions of the former prime minister are!)

Well here's the final cull of royals from my collection. This one I missed from the Thai notes. King Ramma III (Thailand). King Taufa'ahau (Tonga). Prince Dimitrie Cantemir (Transnistria). Fathi Sultan Mehmet (Turkey). Prince Yaroslav (Ukraine). Prince Milan Obrenovich (Yugoslavia). As I said on my first reply I wouldn't include all the various images of Queen Elizabeth II. That would run to quite a number worldwide. So what should the new topic be now?
