Well I can't match some of the other posters deals but about a month or so ago, I managed to pick up 7 Proof ASE all for spot plus $4 at my favorite dealer. 4 were the lowest mintage ASE's made, except for the 1996w of course! I paid a little less than $40 each. All in all I was happy!

Nice! I'm an avid silver collector too. I just bought a pair of earrings for cheap ($2), because they were silver ($22 in silver).

Were there any old ones or just some 40%'s ?

All the rolls I got were 40%ers.

@ a different seller than where I got the rolls I scored a 1963 mint set (both P and D) for $15! That guy also had a half a dozen 1965 mint sets at $5 a piece- so I got those too figuring that the 40% was worth that alone. It was the best flea market day of my life. I made out with over 40 oz of silver @ less than $600!

slyants- Good for you. I'm only 14 so I hope to find some nice coins, while I'm young, to keep for a long time and give to my children.

I'll go ahead and list my best finds of 2011.

One deal that stands out for me was a 1974 Iceland 2-coin proof set (1000 & 500 Kronur) that contains about 1.5 oz of silver for a total of $14.99. Another find was on ebay, I managed to "steal" a titanium 5 Pound Gibraltar coin from 1999 complete with original case and COA for $5 shipped. It's worth $75 according to my Krause. Finally, also on ebay, I got a lot of 4 gem proof silver 1982 Washington halves for a total of $26.

I got a pretty good deal at an antique mall this morning. I noticed a set of Elvis medallions in a cheesy looking velvet box in a display case. I thought they might be silver casino tokens so I had the guy pull them out for me. Turns out they were decals or screen printed on coins; two were on 2002 ASE's & the other 2 were on quarters. They were priced at $20, & before I could say I'll take 'em the guy tells me he could knock off 20%. After tax I paid $17.24 for 2 ASE's plus 2 quarters.

Prior to the 25th Anniversary ASE thing (doubled +), a friend of mine gave me a 1914-D and 1931-S LWC, just got them back (part of the bakers dozen) from ANACS, and will be posted within the next few days under the "You versus ANACS" titles.

I just picked up a 2000 ASE, 85' mint set, 1903 IHC [good], 1906 V Nickel[good] for $24 total with my radio auction gift cards. I got two $25 gift cards for $12 each to a pawn shop. I only wish she had more silver to get instead of the extra coins.

I just finished up buying several "lots" from an ebay seller in Ky. The first lot made it obvious that these folks were flying by the seat of their pants, and while they knew how to use ebay, they weren't real saavy on coins.

The first lot was priced at 50 dollars, and consisted of the following:

1886 Morgan dollar ... O or S ... no mention of MM made
1899 Morgan dollar ... O or S ... no mention of MM made
4 Franklin half dollars ... 3 from the 50s, one 1963
3 Walking Liberty half dollars "from the 1940's"
3 Washington quarters "from the 1930s"
1 1912 Barber quarter ... I think it's a D
1903 Liberty nickel ... avg circulated condition

I waited to see what else they would list, and bought several more lots from them:

35 dollars for 27 Indian Head cents dated 1881 to 1899. In this lot there appear to be 4 pretty high grade coins, but all look to be VG and better.

35 Dollars for 42 Indian Head cents dated from 1900 to 1909. There are several with nice, high rims in this lot as well, and several 1909 issues. No mention of mint marks on anything these folks sold....so who knows? There could be an S minted coin in that lot.

..............

Next, for 20 dollars ... I bought a "lot" of 63 nickels. 2 are dated 1939, and the rest are in the 40s. I believe there is close to a roll of War Nickels in this lot.

...............

I am not a huge fan of Lincoln cents, but I bought a lot of 45 from 1909 to 1930 for 13 dollars. Dates as listed by the seller:

One 1909, Two 1910, two 1912, three 1913, two 1916, three 1917, five 1918, eight 1919, eight 1920, one 1924, two 1925, one 1926, two 1927, two 1929, three 1930.

My guess is these are pulled from an old folder. There's likely a 1910-S, and a 1913-D and 1913-S, a 1916-D, 17pds, 18pds. 20pds, and probably a couple more denver issues.

...............

The last 2 lots I bought consisted of 3 Mercury dimes, 2 1935 and 1 1936 for 7 dollars, and a lot of 66 Jefferson nickels, all dated in the 1950s for 7 dollars. There appear to be numerous AU/BU coins in this lot, including a nice, frosty BU 1955.

Total spent with this seller....167 dollars. The first lot contains about 150 dollars worth of scrap silver if nothing else.

Everything was packed up and sent via priority mail today, so I expect the stuff to arrive on saturday. It could end up being a real good day. It's going to be fun, and while I may not make a fortune ... it's the kind of odds I like when searching accumulations. Typically, I'll glean off a few selections for my own collection, and sell off what I don't want to keep. I'll sell from this lot until my investment is returned, and keep what's left, selling from the bottom up. First stop .... without a doubt, will be War Nickels.

Chance
