The only issue I have with the FS/ER/FDOI labels is that they are or tend to be misleading to those who don't fully understand them. I have a big problem with PCGS stating that "First Strike" means "shipped in the first 30 days of availability" when those two words mean no such thing. To me that is a lot like saying "Filet Mignon" is "made from ground chuck", an outright lie, no matter how you define it. Early Release and First Day of Issue may be less misleading but are equally without meaningful content. As far as collecting them goes I think that whatever someone wants to do is their own business. I hope that they understand what they are doing and if they do then more power to them. If you know what you are doing that's great. If someone is trying to deceive you into thinking that these labels mean something that they do not then I have a problem with that.

i totally agree clair I laugh at these so called labels first strike made me laugh but you know what "gimmicks" sell and thats all it is. I'm perfectly happy leaving my 3 sets I bought sealed in box I know the percentage of complete ogp's are becoming smaller and smaller by the day and sealed mint boxes probably even smaller. it was a crazy day that oct 27th one we will always remember

"I guess I should be ashamed but I am Not. I buy the First Strike From PCGS and Have 70 MS and PRDC Eagle for every year it has Existed. I like the Label and will not buy an Eagle without it. I also have all First strike State Quarters Clad and silver as well as National Parks to date
I am in my late 60s and have been collecting for 50+ years and believe it is my choice alone what I collect"

Do you get your slabs ASAP when they are released or look for the best buy ? IMHO I sense more hoarding than collecting .
I am a hoarder. I buy ms 70 W eagles all day.

I find prices to be their highest right after the graded coins start hitting the market. I always wait a few weeks (or longer) and the prices usually drop significantly....and then rebound. The trick is finding that sweet spot...

Some people have a better way of getting the point out there, I do NOT care what anyone collects, I was trying to put it out there the entire FS and FDOI, and ER slabs, to an educated person does not exist, and is an out and out falsehood!!! Happy Holidays to all......

Actually "Early Release" does have some credibility for normal issues. It means they are coins that were received in the 1st 30 days of availability....nothing mentioned about strike. For the 25th Set it was meaningless but for most it is a true statement.

The best example of this is the PCGS 2006 w silver eagle
the ms 70 is listed at 300 the 20th anniversary FS is at $2000
The coins were all struck at the same time
why is one 10 times more ?

Because you buy them.

I have also been collecting since 1963 and while I see plenty of things change some things still remain the same, knowledge is a very powerful tool, use it wisely. I am talking ONLY about the FS, ER, FDOI for the 25th anniversary coins set....... no other sets .......

Getting ready to send in my set to NGC for grading. Any advice on wrapping the unopened box for shipping? I'd hate to not get them all grades as part of the 25th annie. set due to a snafu in shipping.

I stuck my mint box into another box and took it to the post office.
Plan on spending 20 minutes at the post office while they tape every single seam and
stamp it 100 times...

I really missed the boat on this set. I don't care for graded coins really, I just want a set in OGP. My question is, will the premium paid on a set in OGP hold or raise long term? Or will it drop as so many other premiums do? Should I go ahead and buy or wait a few years for the interest to drop in them?

It is only an opinion, but I think they will hold or go up Near term.

I have been tracking since they came out, hoping to pick up some at a decent price but they aren't going down.

I believe long term they will go up

I don't really want to buy a set for investment purposes, I just want a set for my collection. I just don't want to spend $800 for a set that might be at $4-500 in a couple years. I see how prices on regular proof sets and commemoratives can go down in a few years after release but I guess these will hold due to the low mintage?

I think now is a decent time to get them. The prices aren't as high as they were on ebay when they first came out. I think now you can get one for around $650-750? They were in the $800 range when the first flippers started selling, if I recall. I doubt they will decrease in value, but I also don't think they will have a significant increase enough to beat inflation either.
