In my opinion, There are going to be less and less of the OGP'D sets and more and more of them graded, IMO, having the original sets command still a strong premium.......PS, Keep having your sets graded.........

Get them all graded, increase your odds of achieving more pure MS70 sets or grades, which is where the premiums are at. Their will not be less of the OGP sets, just less for sale, such rumors.

That is intersting advice. I can get the 5 sets graded, see if I can put together 2, maybe 3 70s and sell the others. What do you guys think the chances of getting 3 coming back at 70? Also, what would it run me to send in to PCGS if I join the collectors club and get the 5 free submissions. I also wonder how many would have to come back perfect to make it worthwile. Difficult decision for me as I like the look of the OGP. Keeping the 5 unopened has not been easy for me.

By all means IF you are a collector looking for the biggest bang for your buck, after you submit to PCGS at the nominal fee of approx, $500.00 for the grading with the latest hyped labels, you should be pulling down the biggest premiums 'if they are 70's" on the market. My only point, for all the sets graded, that's one less original government packaged set you can no longer touch...........Grade them all and make the big bucks while you still can... PS, I believe out of 5 sets your odds, IMO, would be one set, IF you are very lucky....Good luck.

With the number of ms/pf 70 coins coming back for these sets, it would be very likely that you could get at least 1 full set of 70's from a batch of 5. Maybe 2. And because of this fairly high percentage, I am surprised that ms/pf 70 sets command much of a premium. Personally, I like my one set in OGP and it will stay that way.
I can't believe that anyone would have the patience to not open a box from the mint, despite the possible future rewards. It would drive me crazy just looking at the box, wondering what I have.

Quote: I do like the look of the set in the ogp but if it ever comes a day when the OGP sets are worth more, I'll crack the slabs on the graded coins. That's exactly why OGP sets will never be worth more.... I made my own OGP set with 2 MS/PF68 S & RP and the other three from my regular Mint purchases. I'm sure there are a few "original" sets being sold this way. Mine will be my personal set.

Quote: What do you guys think the chances of getting 3 coming back at 70? I agree with the 0% chance from PCGS. You would have a better (and cheaper) chance of 70's from NGC unless you are into that FS $18 extra per coin thing. Three is pushing it though... I got 4 70 sets out of one box of 5 and only 1 70 set out of another (NGC).

What is the consensus in here regarding ER or FS Designations. Worth the extra cost-I don't know offhand how much it is per coin. What is needed for those designations? A certain date on the box? Last but NOT least-$1500.00 ! That is what the 5 sets cost me. I may not be able to bring myself to do this solely on principle. This is tough. All I want to do is get a couple of sets graded 70, make all my money back and keep a set or two-LOL-Too much to ask? Help...........

Quote: how much it is per coin The Cost is $34 per Coin For First Strike PCGS Is it worth it? To me it was because I wanted a Set of 70 at any cost. I sent in 3 Sets got back 5 coins graded 70 fortunately 2 were Reverse Proof. But no (S) Had to buy the 2 I was Missing which I did. It is very much your choice I Like the Flagged First Strike. It may be as simple as the Flag Appeals to me, Not really sure what draws me to the label. There are several members here that feel I am an idiot for buying the label, But I am a happy idiot Going PCGS they seem to be about 1/3 70s but not necessarily a complete set. It is a Gamble. PS I now have 2 Sets of 70 Flagged First Strike

Foxwoods Man Writes, " That's exactly why OGP sets will never be worth more...." I collect, like others, many OGP'D sets including ALL Mint and Proof sets from 1951-Date, I do this because I wish to have ALL the original sets in as original condition as I can find. To me they are worth more being just what they are, Original. I see others are stating that "should" the OGP'D sets "become" more valuable they will break out the coins from there slabs. I feel do as you wish, I think there are plenty of types of collectors and that makes the world go around, I do not enjoy the look of a coin in solitary confinement, because the market will pay more or this is the apparent strongest premium presently available, THIS is just my opinion and I am in NO way suggesting this or ANY other way to collect, just there are many different kinds of collectors and they collect what they like to. Enjoy what you collect, Collect what you enjoy.........

Once out of the OGP, it is no longer original. To each their own. Mine will remain like a brand new baby.
