yeah well I couldn't justify trying to compare a raw set with a 70 set

Two more Original Government Packaged sets Thrown to the TPG'S, I admit they stand for another persons opinion on your coins and these days that opinion is obviously bringing in more money, for the quick profit minded collectors, will the set hold that value? They sure look good, however I agree there are plenty of people collecting and good luck to us all, I just appreciate the original aspect of it all, the fact the OGP'D sets are par as far as premiums paid to own them speaks for it self, to each his own, I see in the auctions the label states "first strike' which WE all know, in this Anniversary 25th set, there is no factual basis of this term, except for the TPG'S monetary gain.......I do believe that at some point education and deception need to be seen for what it really is. I am now sending off some of my Lincoln Coin & Chronicles sets to a TPG'R for the "First Strike" designation label, we all know there is no such set, but I am sure IF you spend enough you would more likely then not, find a company that would throw the label , for the right price, on the sets....LOL.

Quote: Not Sure why all the passion over Slabbed and OGP, Because that's the way they're being promoted at the moment. In ten years, or maybe as little as two, there will be little or no difference, and ms70 sets will be less than 10% over ms69. In my opinion, if you get ms70 coins, sell them while the market's hot, and buy them back later.

Just my opinion but the market was hot for the first few weeks of graded set availability. That would have been the time to sell and get the big bucks. Now it has gone into mellow mode as the glut of sets has decreased and now the numbers of available sets and singles are leveling off and, in some cases, decreasing. They should now hold steady and eventually begin a slow rise up in prices.... kinda like a reverse bell curve. It's actually very interesting watching it develop....I've been bottom feeding on these for a while and it has become harder and harder to get a low ball bid in successfully....and that's a good thing

I don't make predictions ,and my opinion is usually an 'Assum'ption but I have seen prices bottom out, and are back on the rise OGP sets were down to $600 but now you are lucky to find 1 for $700. Will the OGP and 69 slab to continue to rise equally? you are right time will tell, but 70 sets will also rise from todays price, I find it hard to believe that any 70 Eagle can be bought for 10% above the price of a 69. There are 100,000 sets total and over 1 million collectors, with more being born daily

yeah most 69's sell as though they are raw with modern proof or special set coins so they do usually stay pretty side by side as far as prices go. I believe a 70 set is going to sell for more than 10% over a 69 set myself. Even right now they are selling for 100% over than the 69/OGP sets and I really don't see them falling back any 90% over the price of the 69's ever. I am a little surprised to see the 69's of this set sell right along side of the OGP sets because of the 2 coins that can be bought separately and there is no guarantee those coins are actually from the set without the label. I am glad I didn't go ahead and send the box of 3 sets in for grading like I was going to do before I decided to just sit and see what happened to the market. With me waiting I saved all those grading fees and shipping fees and since chances are most would have been 69's anyway that is that much more profit I can pocket if I ever decide to sell

I sent 3 sets for grading PCGS First Strike, Got back 5 70s 2 were Reverse Proof. Just 1 of them covered the cost of Grading. Very Glad I did it. Of course as stated earlier my primary reason was that I wanted a 70 set of my own. Had to buy 2 coins one of which was The S. but still got my set cheap

Bryan, I am actually surprised to see the OGP'D sets selling up there with the 69's...... I thought it would take a period of more time for people to realize the true value of the Original sets, Wrong.!!

I recently purchased a 69 set for $680 shipped. Figured that's a pretty good price.

The 2006 20th Anniversary Set had been hiding in the wood and now I see them coming out but the price has been creeping up to about $400+/- (from all the attention of the 25th Anniversary Set). About a year ago, the 2006 Set was in the range of $250 to $300.
I am pondering if I should wait or try to get a set for myself, since I don't have the 2006 Set. What's a reasonable price range should I expect to pay for. I've posted my on CCF wanted list but got no offer for trade..... Any insight?

I just did a search and the raw set is running around $405-425. A graded 69 set runs just about the same and the NGC 70 sets are $1200-1500.
You could make your own set with just the RP being unique to the set but it would be a pain doesn't look to be a price advantage.

Quote: I just did a search and the raw set is running around $405-425 I have no idea where you are looking and finding them in the 400 dollar range because everything I look at is in the 700 range for the OGP sets. The most recent full OGP set that ended on ebay sold for $750.00. You may find a 3 coin set for 400.00 I don't know but I have not see a whole OGP set sell for anything under 700.00 on ebay. If you can find them any cheaper than 600.00 you should buy every set you find because that would be at least 100.00 profit when you just turn right around and resell them. Thew one that was $750.00 had multiple lots sold at that price here http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Americ...em3a6f390f03 and this one is the latest actual auction and sold for $735.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-25th-A...em33718b92b0 and this is the latest MS-69 set with one PF-70 sold here http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-25th-A...em3f139994b5
