Check the record again. I checked my and was blank (no record of any orders, even those shipped).... and I just check back again, everything was there. So, I think the system was update/refreshing or something.

Also, I believe if you have your order number, you can always call in and get them to straight things out.

I just checked my order record and I noticed this

Order Date: 10/27/2011 at 12:44 AM

My other order shows a similar time stamp. Obviously the Mint messed up as there is no way I could have placed an order right after midnight. I know the site said it would cancel orders made before noon. Should I be concerned?

You know this just hit me! You can order 5 sets, put together the best of 5 for a great shot at a perfect 70 set and return the other 4 sets. For at least a nice price on a 70 set (If you get all 5)

Quote:
And just how are you going to "put together the best" if you can't open the box prior to grading?

Why can't you send in your best set of 5 for grading?
Why would the box have to be unopened? It's no different than buying mint sets & sending in the best.

Guess I missed something, where is it written that the package has to remain sealed when submitted to PCGS?

Things must have changed since 2006, I sent my 2 sets of 2006 in loose and received the 20th Ann. Label. I did leave them in the mint Airtite, but kept the boxes.

From what I've been reading, all the time stamps are like that (mine shows 12:23 AM). So I wouldn't worry.

Thanks. I thought that was the case. Still, that's not a mistake they should be making.

Would (Has) the Mint increase an already announced maximum mintage to meet demand?

Waiting List Notice: The number of orders we have taken meets the maximum limit for the 2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set. You may still place an order for this product, which will go on a waiting list. If a product becomes available due to an order cancellation, we will fulfill orders from the waiting list on a first-in, first-served basis. We cannot provide information about your position on the waiting list.

When we place your order on the waiting list, we will send you an order receipt. This is not a guarantee that you will receive your order. If we are not able to fulfill your order, you will receive a cancellation or sold-out notification. If you paid by check, you will receive a refund.

I sincerely doubt it. The earlier verbiage about revisiting limits after the first week was only referring to the "5 per household" limit and not the total mintage. And the bit about not being guaranteed a set even if you have an order receipt only applies to those who are on the waiting list.

As far as I can tell, the 100,000 mintage is set in stone and everybody who has an order receipt that is not on the waiting list will receive their orders (unless there is a problem with your credit card or the mint determines you ordered more than the allowed 5 sets). If some orders are canceled or not honored, then people on the waiting list will have a chance. Otherwise, they are out of luck.

That really stinks for anybody who didn't get the sets they wanted. As I mentioned before, though, the fixed 100,000 mintage is a great boon for people who did get their sets, since it will hopefully make these wonderful investments for the future. I wouldn't have bothered buying five sets if it weren't for the set mintage (I would have bought one set for myself, but that would have been it).

Trust me on this one...open the boxes and you will get only 2 coins with the 25th Set label...the others could have come from anywhere.

I sent in just around 35 20th Anniversary sets and they also had to be in the unopened boxes (thus the premium for unopened boxes for sale)

I can't locate the response I received from PCGS but it was of the same direction as this one from NGC:

Dear Mr. xxxxxxx,

Thank you for your email. The 25th Anniversary Sets will need to be
sent in the Unopened packaging from The Mint just like the 20th
Anniversary sets. Early Release is not available for these just as it
was not for the 20th. The box that you receive from The Mint should be
put into another box with your submission form. You will need to use the
Modern Special Grading tier for these coins.

In my previous posts I talked about how the system gave me my order and later that day took it from me. Here is chapter 3 in the story:

Well, after trying many, many times and hitting redial, I finally got put on a waiting list on the phone. After another long wait (I totally re-organized a large 3 ring binder of data and added new index sheets in each category) I got to talk with Judy. It was around, probably 11:00 PM. She apologized that there was nothing she could do at that time and told me to call Friday morning and tell them Judy said I should ask to get transferred to headquarters. I asked her what this meant. She said that these were the people who could help me.

The mint will not mint more coins to make more sets. The mint's clock that puts the timestamp in the track order pages labels any time between noon and 1PM an AM. It has always been this way (at least as far back as the UHRDE in January 2009). It is nothing to worry about, they really use a 24 hour clock and the AM is just a display error.

This is from the PCGS website:
"First Strike designation for 2006-W 3pc Silver 20th Anniversary sets:
To get the 20th Anniversary First Strike designation, the sets must come to PCGS sealed in the original government boxes they were shipped in.
The box must be unopened.
The shipment date on the shipping label must be October 24th or earlier to also receive First Strike designation.
The only coin to qualify for 20th Anniversary if the box has been opened is the Reverse Proof since this coin currently is only offered as part of the 3pc set. The other 2 coins are available in other sets or individually. (This is subject to change if the government decides to offer the Reverse Proof individually at a later date."

So it looks like you can still get 2006 sets graded and marked as 20th anniversary and even first strike if you still have an unopened box. I haven't seen anything on their site about the 25th anniversary set, if anyone has, please post a link.

OK - a new chapter begins...

Summary - call back later!

Details: I got on a waiting list and talked to Tiara. After explaining the problem and telling her my order number she informed me there was no record of the number. I related to he the people I had talked to and told her Judy had told me to be asked to be transferred to HQ. So she transferred me.

I got to talk with a polite person named Kelly who said she was at HQ and assisting Tiara in the call center.

I re-iterated my story and she said she would need to transfer me. She attempted this 3 times and finally got back with me and told me she was sorry but they had their recording that they were not open yet, even though they were supposed to be. She apologized profusely and told me that I needed to call back in 15 minutes.

I asked her for a direct dial number b/c it had taken me a longtime just to get through the regular ordering system and then ask to be transferred to her. She again apologized and said if I could afford the wait, it was the only way to get through. I told her right now I have other obligations and so she informed me that they are open until 4:30 tonight. I sure am glad I have screenshots to back all of this up!

So now I continue my journey and an experiment as to how the US Mint handles a big blunder on their part. Lets hope the outcome is as friendly as the nice nice disposition of Laurie, Judy, Tiara, and Kelly who answered the phones. If I keep going I might get to have a compete list of their phone operators

I dont know why anyone is even questioning whether they will get their order or not. Do you really think they took 100,000 orders regardless of how many per order? Give it a rest. They may not have the newest up to date bazzillion dollar retail ordering system that Amazon has. But I am quite sure their system is capable of the simple math of adding up the number of sets ordered in each order. A Buddhist monk with an abacus could do so.

So news flash...THEY ARE NOT A HUGE RETAIL ENTITY. They do NOT need the system Walmart has to order on line. Something like this happens on such an infrequent basis they couldnt justify the cost of a system like that. You all have seen the reaction of the public and congress to the dollars sitting in vaults, and that isn't even tax payer money. Imagine what would happen if they spent the money to upgrade their system to the point you folks are talking about.

For an entty that primarily sells things at a comparative snails pace, they have done a good job.

In light of Earle42's SNAFU, I would advise all to go to their track order pages and save screen shots of your orders. I do this as a matter of course and normally also print the order confirmation pages to a file as a backup as well (not just for mint orders). I was unable to do that yesterday as the confirmation pages did not ever fully load because of the congestion. The mint (really PBGS) has lost (or "accidentally deleted") orders before and it is always good to have some evidence on things like this set because you can't just reorder.

It is strange that NGC is saying that it isn't offering Early Release labels since their web page for the set says "All anniversary sets that arrive at NGC during the Early Releases period will automatically be labeled as "Early Releases". To opt out of the Early Releases designation, write "No Early Releases" on the submission form."

A final thought ... the website and phone slowdowns probably actually work in the favor of individual collectors over dealers. If the system could handle huge amounts of orders in a very short time then the dealers would be able to assemble their minions and suck the mint dry before most of us even got on line to try to order. It would be nice if the pages just loaded instead of timing out but having some sort of "brakes" on the ordering system may actually be a good thing.
