The size is more or less what I expected, given the size of five ASEs. I didn't expect the new-car smell though.

$3599 for an unopened box of 5? Did you have it listed as a buy it now?

I think you need to click on the links in the original post and not the quoted version.

DavidZ, a g/f who supports your coin collecting? I'll trade you a 25th anniversary ASE set for her.

Quote: Both sold to shill bidders so no sale really occurred. Not a good representation what makes you think they were shills? The one that is opened is the one I posted a day or so ago saying I didn't understand why he opened them if he was going to sell all 5 and then it was pointed out that he wasn't a collector or anything he was just going on a tip so he will probably never know they could have been worth more if unopened nor care because as long as he makes a profit he will be happy

I don't think those were shills...they are representative of current prices

I was just looking over the last mint sales report and this has not been a very good year for the commemorative coins. The two silver dollar types, with mintage limits of 500K have both done right around 150K and if the pace continues probably won't reach 160K before sales cease on 16 December. I bought mine but I am sure that the hype about this set has had at least some effect on sales. The half Eagle versions are siting at 23-24K with mintage limits of 100,000 (I didn't buy those, I am almost exclusively a silver collector).
It also looks like, with the help of this set, the proof SAE has a chance of reaching the one million mark, and the uncirculated coin should sell 300K. Bullion sales will probably top 40 million and the SF variant will probably account for over 4 of those 40 million this year. Of course, it is unknown how many of the bullion coins will retain their provenance.

First Item: Winning bidder has 1 bid history with 100% to that seller. Second to highest bidder has 2 bid history, 50% with that seller. Second item: again, 100% with that seller with only 1 bid history. Second highest bidder 1 bid with 100% that seller. I've been doing what I do professionally for many years. My opinion only. If it looks like a rat, smells like a rat, its a rat. I only commented originally to point out just because an item appears to have sold for $xxx amount of money does not equate with what the actual value might be. If I wanted to establish a ball park value for an item, and had several or many of those items to sell, and the market was about right (which it is for this set), had some acquantices or multiple ebay IDs, that is how they would do it, and they do. I report this stuf to ebay, sometimes with stronger evidence and they do nothing. It would hurt their pocketbook. Things are not always what they appear to be. They are representative of prices of concluded sales postings only. But all this is off the original post topic. Great sets, mine came today but nobody answered the door. Have to wait until tomorrow morning.

So my set is listed as back ordered expected to ship 11-24. Besides that being Thanksgiving day what are the chances I will actually get a set from the mint?

muddler, you chances are probably slim but as long as you haven't been cancelled, you have a chance. PBGS is not even half way through shipping the sets yet so hang in there. We will think good thoughts for you.

So my order of two finally arrived but my other order for a single set, the one I was planning on keeping, still says backordered. I got my order in at 4:24pm mint time. Anyone know exactly what time the waiting list went into effect?

With all the people getting cancellation emails and their sets saying the same thing before they got that email I think your chances aren't looking good because I believe it would say reserved if you have a chance of getting one
