Bought 1/2 roll of ten different dated ASEs. Got a 2011 silver Panda and Silver Britannia, both under $37 each.

I'm buying right now. Timing the market is too hard. Every time I wait for the price to go down so I can buy, it seems like the price just goes up. I'll probably just make a small/medium size purchase once or twice a month for the foreseeable future. My buy price will average out. This is what I've bought the last two days: 10 Maple Leafs (1oz) 25 Jefferson War Nickels 34 Pre-1965 Washington quarters 47 Pre-1965 Roosevelt dimes 24 Franklin half dollars

Yes SO true on timing! I try to do the same but either I can't get to the shop or I think maybe the price will change. I have ended up doing similar to you pick up some when possible. I'm also thing about a few 5 Oz Gettysburg coins. The price came down and I think they may be nice for a few Christmas presents. We love Gettysburg so a win win! Just have to wait for silver to go up (but nice that its down to be able to buy)!.

Silver is at $30.70 AUD Per Ounce, dropped from $31.40 AUD Per Ounce. What do you guys think it'll be by the end of the month?

Who knows. There is another thread that talks about silver prices on different days of the week. There are a few interesting posts on that one.

My guess is that silver prices will move side ways for a while, with prices being in a trading range between the high $20s and the low $30s. The dollar is showing some short term bullish signs, which is usually bearish for precious metals. Long periods of side ways action is usually followed by a break out (up or down). This is a chart of an ETF that tracks the US dollar: As you can see, the dollar is poised for an upward move technically speaking.

Quote:Purchased a roll of UNC 1960 dimes and a roll of F/AU Walking Liberty halves this evening. Excellent purchase. I just love the Walking Liberty design and finding some that are in F/AU condition is a real plus. I also like the pre-1965 dimes, both Roosevelts and Mercuries. They will be great for making change during any bad economic times that come along. I have a tube of the Roosevelts in BU condition and about 1/2 a tube of the Mercury dimes in G/F condition. They are small but could become quite useful. What I could really use now would be some rolls of quarters. I only have a few of them so far.

Today I went nosing around a pawnshop, a jewelry store, two antique stores, and an antique mall with about 40 booths. I drove over 150 miles, spent 7 hours, and came back with nothing.
The two antique stores had nothing. One had dumped silver near the high and the other was a new store crammed (so crammed that stuff had to be moved just to look around) with every thing but silver.
Pawnshop had some ($15 face) but wanted 40 times face ($57/oz) and would not budge. No sale. Says he is waiting for silver to go back up. I heard that before right after the Hunt brothers tried cornering the market. Those people waited 30 years before it went back up.
Jewelry store had some ($13 face), but wanted 36 times face ($51/oz). I passed on that one too. Like why should I buy at $51 when I can call my local dealer and he will deliver for spot ($31/oz)?
Antique mall had several booths with silver, but nothing under 40 times face. No sale again.
I am 300 miles from home, so I figured I would dip my tootsies into the local market and see what floated to the top. Nothing did. Day was not a total loss though. I was able to make some contacts that may pay off in the future.

Silver Britannia for under $37... Terrific buy! I bought a lottery ticket. Hope that will be enough to fund my newborn's diapers with some left over to buy back what I'm selling on ebay plug for my ebay auctions (let me know if this is allowed!). Really gut-wrenching to see some of these go... if my progeny didn't turn out this cute... :p http://www.ebay.com/sch/encalibur/m...trksid=p3686

In my small observation sample, a lot of shops outside of the coin business, are sitting on silver they bought at 40+ per oz...and are not selling.
Two weeks ago, with cash in hand, local pawnshop has a 100 oz Englehard, but their sell price was $38 per oz. Silver was at 31.xx. He tried to tell me silver was trading at 34.xx....when I am standing there looking at what silver is on my phone.
So, I changed tactics....I need to SELL silver to this place. His buy price was 26.xx/oz. I inquired why the $12 split between buy and sell. He said, I am in it for profit. I walked.
