1976-P Lincoln Dime - Doubled-Die Or Double Punched?

Jeffreyscott28 New Member United States 7 Posts	Posted 08/07/2016 11:34 am Hey guys! Thoughts on this? Check out the "BE" in "Liberty." I still have a lot of trouble deciphering between a true doubled-die and a double punched or stamped coin. These pictures don't do justice to the clarity of the divided lines in the coin, in person. (And while I'm at it - any advice for photographing coins? Right now I'm just using my iPhone with a Hastings Triplet 10x 18MM scope... having some trouble when it comes to very detailed coins, as this one). Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/07/2016 12:31 pm Looks like an older die gouge that now has die flow over it. It is not a BIE. BIEs are more of a chip issue and mostly on cents. Report this Post to the Staff

I don't think you are asking about a "BIE" - you were asking to look at the BE. I see how they look a bit "fat" but they do not appear to me to be a Doubled Die. Report this Post to the Staff

Halo1st Pillar of the Community United States 2775 Posts	Posted 08/07/2016 3:58 pm If you're referring to whats happening with the inside of the two devices, then looks to be Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration as it is a later die state. As for photographing coins, your pics look better than mine. That said there is a section here with lots of advice, tips and tricks that can help better than I can. Thanks, Doug.
