My friend asked me is I knew why the left ridge looks odd, and seems to come in a bit. I do not know and am asking if anyone can identify this error and if it is a common or rare error. Thank you.

I believe they call that an uncentered planchet error a minor error but I'm no expert!

If you are referring to the "secondary" rim between Lincoln's shoulder and the W (WE) that looks like this coin was struck by a misaligned obverse die.

(An image of the reverse could help rule out an off-center cent. If the reverse is normal, this effect would be from misaligned dies. If the reverse looks like this obverse, it might be a slightly off-center cent.)

Also have some Die Deterioration going on--note the Ridge Ring running through IN GOD.

Thanks for the info on the reverse.

As Dearborn and ijn1944 said this would be a MAD ( Mis-Aligned die, obverse) and have a Ridge Ring (through IN GOD to below the L)
