If you read the program information for this thingy, it lists a whole bunch of places that the set is honoring the 75th anniversary of, including "the beginning of construction of the West Point facility", so that whole tirade muddies the SF connection considerably.

The program for this thingy really is all over the place. The bill is 3 years two late. I like the idea of combining a bill and a coin in a set, but dont understand why this set has been put together at all and personally think the logic behind it is stupid to be honest. That is a good point though.

Honestly I really do hope your right and this is just all confusion over a poorly written description. Otherwise its very underhanded

It's all but set in stone... From what I see, it's 100% the S mint mark proof? I'm starting to think the SF mint banged out 400k+ of these proofs and then "mint to ordered" the RP.... So now they need to pawn the extra's... Just my 2c, but in the link posted, in the comments section, they pretty much say that they confirmed with the mint that the proof offered in this set is the S mm.

While I completely trust Louis & Michael, I put far less faith in "a mint official". After all, it was "a mint official" that told PCGS that the bullion coin in the 2011 set could come from either W or S mints, when in fact it came solely from San Francisco as confirmed by a proper mint official, one with a name. These unnamed mint officials have handed out poor, misleading, or just plain wrong information in the past. While it is looking more and more like San Francisco will continue to strike proof ASEs after it finishes the coins for the two coin set and include them in the TA8 offering, the mint has clearly proven that it has not learned from past mistakes by publishing an utterly ambiguous product information sheet. They might as well have just said that the new set will contain a "Silver Eagle" coin and left it at that.

In this case I'm not sure what would be worse, the info being wrong or right. Regardless of what ends up in the new set the mint once again couldnt have handled this any worse than they have. Seems to be a common theme with them lately. Maybe its time to start looking for a new director and or managers

I have never bought anything directly from the mint, I wanted the S.F. set so I ordered it. The mints website says my set will ship on or about 7/27, Is that when they will charge my credit card, on the day they ship? Most of you have much more exp. Dealing with mint. I thinking someone can answer this. Thanks.

2001 there was the Buffalo set that had a specimen Buffalo $5 note and commem silver coin

2004 Texas set that had a couple of quarters and 2 $1 and 2 $5 bills

1993 Jefferson set with a $2 note and nickels

After the fiasco they put me through with the 2005 set - over and over promising they would correct my mint-computer-canceled order, and in the end finding they really had no mechanism in place for doing so (just multiple levels of buffer zone complaint departments), I do not trust the mint at all (search the forum for "computer bandit"). The situation made for a good opportunity to see just how the mint structure works - and their level of honesty/integrity. I even got my state rep involved to go to the highest level and got the response that it was too late to do anything (even though I was calling them weekly - and mentioned this in the letter the State Rep sent). All it would have taken was someone willing to look into it. The situation has mad me skeptical that all the mint cares about who is behind their orders - all they seem to want is the money.

So why did I order this set? B/c I like the looks and did not want to pay a premium later. I probably plan to sell a couple. I look at it as making a buck off of product from a legalized crook.

tkflex36, your CC will be charged shortly before they actually ship your order. It may be the same day as shipment occurs or up to several days before. The 7/27 date is a placeholder but the mint has said that it intends to begin shipping on or about that day but since there are about 150,000 sets that have that same date, it will probably take several weeks to ship them all so when you get charged and your order ships will depend on where in that group your order was placed. The mint generally follows the order numbers when shipping but it won't be exact. It is possible that an order placed after yours might ship a day before depending on how they are picked and packed. The mint has a cutoff at about 3PM ET where any order that gets marked as shipped after that time will actually ship the next day. Only one shipment occurs each day, the details are sent to the shipper at 3PM and the packages are delivered sometime later. There are now three main types of shipments that the mint makes. Orders that pay the extra $12.95 for expedited service ship UPS next day air. Orders that qualify for the complementary upgrade ($300 or more or gold or platinum) ship UPS second day air. Normal orders ship FedEx/USPS slow boat. There are some other methods used for special cases, like expedited orders to P.O. boxes or overseas/military orders. Sometimes PBGS (the private contractor that does order fulfillment for the mint) will put a hold on your CC too early and it will expire or almost expire before shipping actually occurs. Fortunately they seem to be doing less of this lately (there is no reason for them to use a hold/charge methodology like a restaurant, they should just charge and close all at once, like a retail store) but it did happen a lot on the 2011 set. In any case, once you see that your CC has been charged, your order should ship within a matter of just a few days. Just remember, even if you placed your order on day one, it could be a week after shipping begins before your set gets out the door. The mint did say that they hope to have all orders shipped by mid October, so those with the 10/31 date should have product in hand well before that date. I have orders in both the 7/27 group (one on day one and one that is probably at the end of that group) and the 10/31 group (one on 7/3 and one late on the last day at 3:40PM ET). All of my orders received upgraded (2 day) shipping because I ordered other items along with the sets (all of which have already been received). I will track my orders in detail, something I have been doing since January 2009. My mint website order history dates back to July 2000 and order number 4,275,260.

75th anniversary of the SF mint? Either this is a really old thread or I have something wrong. I thought that the SF mint started in the 1870s.

Yep, this thread has been around since the mid-1900's.

Ok, maybe it just seems like it. ;)

The set was never officially was intended to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the SF Mint, but it just so happens that 2012 is the 75th anniversary of the opening of the current SF Mint facility in 1937.

The original SF Mint started operations in 1854.

Who will be the first to post a picture of this set? It looks like they are gonna ship on Friday. Yeah Buddy

Probably just gonna send all mine to PCGS as soon as I get them.

I wish my OCD wasn't so bad that and I could just leave one sealed in the original box but I'm sure I couldn't. I get no satisfaction from starring at a cardboard box.
