I've seen a vast difference in finishes on different years of bullion ASEs--with differing levels of luster and cartwheels--and wonder if a specific preference for the 2006 may be due to the field on the 2012 RP being perfectly consistent. I'm O.K. with perfect, as this is bullion after all ;)

I got my 4 sets yesterday. Now I see why they are charging so much extra for these sets, as opposed to the regular ASEs. It is in the packaging. You are paying quite a bit extra to get a fancy box. The box is definitely not worth paying that much extra for. I'd rather save the $20+ and just get 2 simple little boxes, like what they do for the regular ASEs.

There are more differences between the 2006 and 2011/2012 RPs than just the sandblast/laser field preparations. More detailed hand polishing of the deivecs has been done for the newer die and the addition of the chrome-nitride coating and other die hardening steps makes for more brilliant and detailed devices. I don't like the laser as generally applied but at least it looks like they used a smaller dot size for the ASEs than they use on annual proofs. When I get back from vacation I will do some detailed analysis of laser dot sizes on various coins. Beuatiful pics from all, I can't wait to see them in person.

I took 5 ASE PR 2012 W and these 5 ASE PR 2012 -S,put them side by side. I feel that the ASE PR- S mint are not as nice as the W ASE PR. The W-ASE PR are cleaner, less nicks, look more appealing, I think West Point strikes nicer coins ?just my opinion .... Sent 4 sets to PCGS today, will post outcome in three weeks...

... not very happy with the RP's... all three sets I received yesterday, all three RP's were nicked up and one even had a distracting scratch all the way through the sun? I'm not too upset, but these certainly cannot be sent in for grading (a couple 68's, maybe even a 67), so I guess that saves me some dough Erik

Hmmm, that line of results makes me think again about maybe cancelling :(
Naw, it's worth the return shipping cost to gamble on getting a 69-70 :)
I did have the thought that one reason they made a short window would be to ensure fewer returns...like 2011.
That, in addition to ensuring the window closed before the "other" set was released... grrr.

The order that I placed on 6/13 was finally shipped yesterday. So if things are going well I should be receiving them either Monday or Tuesday. However with expedited shipping it would be here tomorrow if things are really going right.
So tkflex36 you will be receiving your order placed almost a week after mine a lot quicker than me. Even though mine is supposed to ship faster. I think though that expedited shipping means speed after the order has left the mint and not faster release from the mint.
I really wish that they would come up with a more accurate term for the shipping that expedited. You placed your order a week after I did and yours was released to you a day later than mine. This is not spilled milk just plain old american complaining.

Unless theyve grouped the regions some how like all of them going to certain states are going at once ect

OK, those look awesome and I cant wait to get mine. The money came out today, so they should be shipping. I will say I was completely disappointed with the RP in my 2011 set. It had spots on the field that were shiny like they should of been on Liberty. It was weird. Main reason I had no qualms selling it. Hopefully this one is better.

I had always figured on returning anything below PRDC 69 but after the run around I got on shipping, My standards have gotten tighter. On another note the 2 sets I ordered on the last day have gone back to a 10/31 ship date.

I got my first a few days ago, and there is THREAD (like off a shirt) over "Oz" on the regular proof! When I showed my dad, he wanted to crack the case and blow it off! I put a stop to that, but will this devalue the coin and is there anything that can be done? Do I stand any chance of returning it and getting a new one?
Thanks
