I really think folks need to get as many as they can and just sit on them, this is one of those few coins that are worth long term investment.

Agreed...
The sales total with one day to go is now 44,478 (1,683 sold in the last day). Last day rush of orders may push this close to 50k, maybe slightly above. We'll see Friday around 3pm ET when the Mint will publish the final sales number (which will be higher than the audited one to be published in a year or so)!

As I mentioned in another area of CCF, I made my order earlier in the week. I'll then send it off directly to PCGS where they will do the unboxing & grading. It will be my first experience with PCGS and I look forward to it. Good luck to the rest.

Should be the special coin in the American buffalo series until 2016, when the Mint could issue another special coin (not necessarily an RP) for the type's 10th Anniversary. They're certain not to miss this money grubbing opportunity, maybe a special enhanced uncirculated? In any case the RP has some good short and long term potential for those that can afford more than one. Most of the issue will have been bought by the big coin dealers and PM guys. Been a fun and exciting four weeks, can't wait to see what the frenzy will be for next year.

I was just reflecting on a few posts I've seen about First Strike being a gimmick. I also read the post about the ANA signed coins getting gobbled up and resold way above market price already. I'm starting to think that may be the new "gimmick". With TPG. I buy first strike coins because they seem to have a bit of a premium associated with them so I'm not ranting. All I'm saying is, if you look at other designated slabs this special release angle seems to be working as the new "it". Think for slabs. I noticed a while back that SBA slabs from the Goodacre release are the only ones really commanding a premium, possibly because there are only so many from the release ceremony. So now with no mintage cap maybe these special release coins are designed to be the real limit for those that follow the mantra of a particular slab adding value. Just an early morning thought from a newb :)

Total sales up to today are 45,912 - 1,434 more since yesterday. Last day rush of sales - window closes 5PM ET SEP05; i.e. TODAY - could push this just above 50k, but it's unlikely it'll be much more than that. Since gold dropped by roughly $50 since Tuesday a few will probably give this a miss.

+/- 50K mintage is a good number, considering this coin is on the high end of the price range for many collectors. I can only afford 1 coin and have bought from Goldmart (NGC PF70, since PCGS PF70 was sold out)..... I am sure this coin will do well in the secondary market.... Bizy also made a good point that many either choose to or can only afford 1 gold coin and then latter on wanted the other Buffalo Proof gold coin to make a set (collector syndrome)..... I may be one of them.... :(

My other theory for Goldmart to sold out of their graded coins is because they are not quite sure how many PF70 they will get back (all the sales are "Pre order") as well as how many will qualify for the FS/ER designation; some thing similar to this had happened with the ASE set before....

The final number (for now) is 47,836. Not bad and lower than what I would have expected. Let the waiting game begin...

I give this my full blessing as an investment coin. I gotta give it to the US Mint.... doing these one time special coins is much better,,, and I know I might insult my fellow friends in Canada, but the RCM just has made too many coins and whoever is running the RCM is madder than a hatter. Coins, I think, at least modern world coins from private and government mints, especially when they are gold and silver, need many things behind them to hold their values up in the years to come. It is not enough to offer a limited mintage. RCM makes tons of coins with limited numbers and I dont see a spike in value over the years. Anyways I am getting away here the original topic on this thread, but I mean this type offering from the US Mint is great and I feel very strongly that this coin will be a major hit in the years to come if not decades.

I call the mint Friday re my back order the woman who took the call said she just started her shift and told me she had not even had a chance yet to see the final sales numbers or expected delivery dates.
Long story short she said the warehouse does not have any in stock and they are expecting a shipment next week but she said it appears like that may not happen either and explained she was sorry but the date could be pushed back further.
I ordered my first coin 12min after noon on opening day and it took over a month to ship to me, while the big boys and the show had coin aplenty to sell, fifo I don't think so...

I ordered my coin at 2pm on opening day and it will be here Monday. The question is do I keep it sealed to get First Strike if I ever want it (shipped withing 30 days) or do I open it to see if it needs to go back (poor quality).
