Quote: Quite a chin on Charles--sorta reminds me of Leopold I.. Runs in the family (Hapsburg mandibular prognathism). Leopold was the great great grandson of Ferdinand I, who was Charles' brother.

Very nice @ED! Here is my Pfennig from the German City of Regensburg dated 1526 AD. It is similar to Schulten 2843.

@eddiediz, Since I'm new to these threads and still learning, can you provide some background on the different letters flanking the Madonna? Are those mints? Mintmaster/engraver?
Thanks in advance. And thanks for posting something other than K B which is what all the rest of us seem to have.

I've got one of those coming up in a few days. It came in a lot of Polish coins, and I had some trouble figuring it out, since I was not so familiar with Hungarian/Bohemain monarchs of the time (and because it looks just like a Polish half groschen). Quite an interesting area of central Europe from both a historical and numismatic viewpoint. Five mints operating in Silesia at this time within a stone's throw of each other, usually under different local lords and/or overlords: Breslau, Brieg, Glogau, Liegnitz, and Schweidnitz (or for those who prefer the current less pronounceable Polish forms: Wroclaw, Brzeg, Glogow, Legnica and Swidnica).

Both of these are 1524 Lily-Lily/L-C Hungarian Denars minted in Kassa under King Louis II;Huszar 846,Unger 675c,Pohl 258-3. The first has a reverse 2 in the date and the second a normal 2. Ironically, the normal 2 is the less common one. In the previous post, the C-Lily was minted in Kassa and the N-G in Nagybanya. They are more scarce mint marks than the K-B which is the most common minted in Kremnitz. I will have a couple more later after waiting to see if anyone else is going to post one.

The first is a 1524 L-K Hungarian Denar under King Louis II minted in Kremnitz (Ludovicus-Kremnitz) with a reverse 2 in the date. I have the version with the normal date also, but the pictures are in my old computer. Huszar 846,Unger 675e. This variant is not recorded as far as I know. The second is a 1524 L-3 under King Louis II minted in Zagrab with points surrounding the digits in the date. I have the version with small circles surrounding the digits, but the pictures are in my old computer;Huszar 853,Unger 677c,Pohl 258-10.
