I've picked a couple of Ikes up this week. I was half searching one day, and one of my usual banks had a 1971 Ike. The next day, I sniped a 1971S silver proof on ebay for $10! It has a few hairlines, but not bad for under melt...

CPC24, Congrats on the Snipe and the Bank find A bad day with Ike's is better than a Good day without them I wonder if I am in the ball park Chuck. I still have not had time to photograph my most recent additions

Terry: Sure hope you got a 71d on a Proof Planchet. Looking forward to the pics! I ended up purchasing the ARED book, Second Edition on ebay. Paid $24.95 included Free S&H. Great book, loaded with DDO's/DDR's etc! I got 6- "1971S Blue Ike's coming in. I hope I find a nice DDO/ or DDR or better yet a "Peg LEG" Anything good, I'll also post some pics. PlumbCrazy814: Great group of Ike's you got there! Any DDO's/DDR's in there? Is the 71D a FEV? Great site to check out your Ike varieties is https://www.theikegroup.org. CPC24: Great pick-up on the 71S Silver Proof Ike for less than Silver Value! * The 6 Blue Ike's I got coming in were also pickups from ebay. I paid around $10.80 each. Silver closed today at $40.85 an ozt. These are worth around $12.90 each Silver Value.

jbuck: I remember when they all were ordered from the mint - it was so exciting. Father went crazy ordering the 5 per person limit in everyone's name in the family. At least I think I recall that the limit was five. About the time I could afford to order them on my own, they would drop in value as soon as you got them and then they stopped making them.
chuckster 125: I never looked at them that closely, and now my eyesight is getting to the point that I have great difficulty even with a magnifying glass finding small details.
I will try to take a look one of these days.
We noticed the weak strikes when they first came out but didn't pay too much attention to the fine details. It was the first new big dollar in forever and the coin club people were walking around dazed. It was very exciting. We used to go to the bank and get a few and then circulate them. We did the same thing when the Bi-centenial $2 bills came out. My parents went to Jamaica during that period and my father tried to buy a trinket from a young person selling things to tourists. The young man refused the Ike because he didn't think it was real - he wanted a paper dollar.
I have a pile that I pulled from circulation and I give them to my young nieces, nephews, and grandnieces/nephews when they come to visit.

In 1971, when the first shipment of proofs arrived, I was amazed by their brilliance. $10 a piece to buy when the minimum wage was about $1.60/hr.
Then he gave one to me to keep!
So I've had it for 40 years (it is not in the pics I posted) and I am going to keep it until I die. I don't really care what happens to it after that because it will never mean as much to anyone else but me.

Very nice! I am a sentimental guy. My first two Eisenhower dollars came from my dad and they still reside in my Eisenhower Dansco.

I have the "HARD COPY! First Edition May 2011! Great book! Hope you find something great in that bucket of IKE'S! Here are some of my latest finds from a bid I won on ebay last week ( 5 - 1971S Blue Ike's for $52.00 including FREE S & H!) First- a 1971 S BS "PEG LEG IKE! Has some tarnish/rust above the motto on the obverse, but it's still a PEG LEG! ____________________________________________________________ * Second: 1971S BS DDR? Can't match this one to anything in ARED or CONECA, but (IMHO) it is a strong DDR (Hopefully this one is not Master Die Doubling etc.` ) Very strong notching on the 2 LL's in Dollar and on the C in AMERICA. also notching on the base of some of the letters from OF AMER can be seen plus notching is on the Stars on the right side of the coin. LL'S in DOLLAR: C in AMERICA Bottom Left "R" in AMERICA Bottom Left "I" in AMERICA STAR
