I FINALLY get to play in this thread! I've been trying to get my hands on a few Ike's never really to much avail, until today at the bank I saw a coin that didn't quite fit in the teller's tray... sure enough I asked if I could buy it and she handed it right over! Take a look! And there's this interesting little die crack right here...

My father has a bag of Ike dollars that he has just be handing out to people. Should I be looking for anything valuable in there? If I find something good of valuable, I will post a pic. Just not sure what to look for.

From chuckster 125: Quote:Great site to check out your Ike varieties is https://www.theikegroup.org. chuckster's link did not quite work for me but I did get to a similar site using a Google search. In My Opinion: Save any 1973's you find. 1972 type II is good to save. 1776-1976 type I's are not real common.

I used to collect coins halfheartedly as a kid but hadn't really done any collecting in the last 30 years or so. When my son started kindergarten last year, however, he wanted to start collecting the 50 State Quarters, and this rekindled my interest. I had fond memories of my dad giving me Eisenhower dollars, one for each A I got on my report cards, and I thought it would be a nice tradition to continue with my son. The problem was where to find any at a reasonable price. I turned to ebay and bought a lot of "25 Mixed Date Eisenhower dollars" for about $35, figuring that $1.50 per coin wasn't too bad. When I got the package in the mail, I noticed that one dollar in particular looked very odd compared to the rest: Up until then, I had never even heard of a "proof" coin, let alone seen one. Now, I can't get enough of them!
