Silver is always good. Yes, it is! Up to 16 silver dimes found via CRH on the year, along with 5 found in Coinstar reject bins.

Quote: On Monday, I purchased 5,450 dimes from five different banks total... found 4 2009-Ds and this BU 1958-D in one of the CWR! Very nice! Quote: On Tuesday, I hit a different branch of my main bank with a brand new teller, and got 500 more dimes, 200 CWR and 300 CWR... believe it or not, each of the groups provided me with a silver dime! Even nicer! Quote: Yesterday, I decided to get some more dimes from that same teller I had on Tuesday (I also visited that branch on Wednesday, but didn't get any dimes)... 500 CWR yielded me another silver coin! You are on a roll! Quote: Yeah, I plan on visiting again on Monday No brainer.

Great finds, John77! I'm way overdue for a dime update, especially since my focus is on dimes. I've now searched 446 boxes, concentraing on CWR. My average has held reasonably steady at about 1.7 silvers/box when I include hoards, and 1.1 without hoards. I'm defining a hoard as 25 or more silvers in a box, usually concentrated in a few rolls. I've only found one hoard since my last update. It was split between four rolls, totaling 30 silver dimes: 21 Roosevelts and 9 Mercuries. The Mercuries were all 1940s, most were VF-EF. Some of the coins had what looks like green wax on them (as seen in photo). Acetone removed it just fine. I'm still avoiding Brinks rolls. I trade them for CWR or MWR from a local distributor, Titan, which contain silver at about the rate of CWR. I've only found six silver dimes in about 23 Brinks boxes, compared to an average of 1.5 silvers per box for Titan. I see Brinks servicing Coinstars in my area and I suspect this is part of the reason for the discrepancy. Since my last update, I also finally found a Barber dime - two actually, about a week apart late last year. Both are in poor condition, but they are clearly a 1900-P and 1899-S. Both were in CWR. My father roll hunted in the late 1950s, and he said he rarely if ever found Barbers, even back then. Last week yielded another remarkable find: my first 1949-S. I still need the 1950-S, 1954-S, and all the 1955 dimes.

Great find. When I go to the bank they say, "Don't you want any dimes?" I might break down and ask for a few.

I can't say I blame you at all - over the past month or so, I've been telling tellers I'd rather have customer wrapped rolls of dimes as I believe Brinks in my area is doing the same thing in terms of an affiliation with Coinstar. Our find rates are remarkably similar. Every MWR dime I've bought this year has been Brinks. Of 17,100 MWR dimes I've searched this year, I've found TWO silvers... I've searched 23,950 CWR dimes this year and found 14 silvers. Quote:Since my last update, I also finally found a Barber dime - two actually, about a week apart late last year. And that's now one more than me - I found my lone Barber in 2021 - a 1908-D. http://goccf.com/t/60961&whichpage=423#3342408Quote: Last week yielded another remarkable find: my first 1949-S. So Dimes continue to be productive for me in 2023. The second week of May, I picked up a total of 11,400 dimes... I found a 1961 and a 1988-S proof (not pictured) amongst that Monday's coins... That Tuesday my finds included my first Mercury of the year, a 1944-D! But the big prize came on Wednesday of that week... I went to a neighboring city and went to get 10 rolls of dimes at one of my regular banks I visit... the teller only had 8 rolls, but one stood out... I had to wait about 10 minutes as he needed to get two rolls from another teller to complete my request... As you can see, this was not a modern-looking roll at all. I was bordering on salivating waiting... When I was finally handed the roll, I quickly flipped it over to find : Yes, ALL SILVER! I got to my car and opened it up and sure enough it was 50 silver dimes!!! The breakdown by date: 1951-D, 1952-D (2), 1953-D, 1954-D (2), 1957-D (3), 1958-D (3), 1959, 1959-D (2), 1960-D, 1961-D (3), 1962-D (2), 1963-D (2), 1964 (3), 1964-D (24). And, yes, the next day, Thursday, I found a 1964-D amongst a group... So 53 silver dimes in four days. Not a bad week at all!

When I recently joined this forum I posted about a box of coins and medals that I inherited many years ago. It was part of my Mom's collection that was divided between me and my three sisters. A few years ago I started collecting silver coins and eventually dug the box out of the back of the closet. There were many, many rolls of coins and among them were several rolls of silver dimes. I have been, and still am, very busy with my collection but I'm going to gradually start going through the rolls of dimes. It may take some time but if I find anything interesting I will post it here.

John, you're almost tempting me to start coin roll hunting. What a fantastic find!

I went through the two plastic tubes of mixed dimes and this is the breakdown. 1946 -5 1946-S -1 1946-D -4 1947 -7 1947-S -5 1947-D -1 1948 -2 1948-S -3 1948-D -1 1950 -1 1950-S -1 1950-D -1 1951 -2 1951-D -2 1952 -2 1952-S -3 1952-D -6 1953-S -4 1953-D -5 1954 -1 1954-D -7 1957-D -1 1958-D -6 1959-D -1 1960-D -1 1964 -1 1964-D -37 Most of the 1964-D were in very good condition. These are some of the nicer ones.
