Quote: A tepid reintroduction to dime rolls: 2 64 P in $100 of CWR this week and 1 64 D last week in $70 of CWR. Nice start! Quote: Once I get this pesky 44 D Jefferson I'm taking a break from feverish nickel hunting to ride the highs and lows of dimes, quarters and halves. Good luck!

Nice finds, everyone. Silver has been a tad below average for me lately, but I did have one quality find this week: my first 1955-S. The only two dates I need for a full set are now 1950-S and 1955-D.

14 years!!!! WOW. so much has changed for me since then - marriage, 3 kids, divorce.... HAHA life goes on....
i decided to start searching again, starting off slow.
searched $100 in machine rolled from the local credit Union. SKUNKED..
question.: have we concluded or theorized that all or some armored carriers are culling the silver?

In my area (Ohio), we have Brinks, Garda, and Titan. Brinks has little to no silver in dimes, and about one silver quarter every five boxes. I suspect this is due to their servicing of Coinstars and other vending which rejects silver and comprise a substantial portion of their collections.
Garda and Titan contain silver at about the rate of CWR. I've even found a hoard (38 silver dimes) in a machine-wrapped Titan box. I avoid Garda because they usually contain all new 2023 dimes, but when they are recirculated coins they often contain silver.
So IMO, it's less that they are pulling silver, and more that they are collecting coins from machines which reject silver.

Pretty neat to come back 10+ years later and see things still rolling on and to be able to pick up where you left off....

My guess (I actually told this to a teller today) is that some armored carriers do a lot of business with Coinstar... as we all know, Coinstar machines cull silver coins via the reject bins. I am fairly certain Brinks works with them (at least here in SoCal), because I get an extremely low silver find rate with their "Fed" rolls most of the time - quite a bit worse than String & Sons (GARDA) rolls. The teller I had today when I was buying dimes and nickels tried to exchange a Fed roll for a CWR and I told him "no, I like CWRs of dimes, because they typically produce a lot more silver than the machine wrapped ones"... my theory on the CWRs is that a lot of people will dump dimes into the Coinstars, keep the coins from the reject bins, and EVENTUALLY get to rolling said coins... I haven't tallied my numbers, but my silver find rate last year was about 5x better in CWR than MWR. Quote:

Once I get this pesky 44 D Jefferson I'm taking a break from feverish nickel hunting to ride the highs and lows of dimes, quarters and halves. Yes, pound_foolish, that '44-D coin is pesky... I finally found one at the end of last year to miss completing my 2023 CRH Jefferson nickel set by two coins (1939-D and 1943-D).
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

@BankmanCometh yes. it does feel pretty special to see this thread still rolling after all this time. =) @John77, thanks!
i would agree with what you just outlined. It makes the most sense. I am now living in Tucson AZ, close to Oro Valley. I don't have the funds to open multiple bank accounts to check other banks like Chase, BofA, Wells, etc. I only belong to credit union. I realize this might hinder my chances to find more silver - but that is ok. My efforts are at a minimum anyway - life, three kids under 12, work, etc. I would be lucky to stop at the bank 1x a week. =)
for now, I will enjoy living vicarously through ya'll =p
