Pf/Ms69 And PF/Ms70

KG, the difference between an MS/PF-69 and MS/PF-70 is not visible to the naked eye except perhaps by only the most skilled observer. As you stated, a -70 is a "perfect" coin and I would question whether there is technically any such thing as a perfect coin since imperfections may be found on any coin with enough magnification. Supposedly, the main difference is in sharpness of strike, but I certainly would not be able to make such a distinction. I have one each PCGS MS-68 and MS-69 American Silver Eagles and cannot see any difference between the two whatsoever. If I had a PCGS MS-70 ASE and tried to compare it with the -68, I still seriously doubt I could tell the difference. Only a top TPG might be able to explain it to me, but the difference in value is the rarity of a "perfect coin". The top TPG's will resist giving the -70 label on any coin as much as possible thus contributing to their rarity. I can only take the TPG's word for it that a particular coin has earned the -70 grade.

I would have to add that as I do like the idea of owning PF-70's, I can rarely justify their expense at this point. I can not tell the difference although I recognize that one probably does exist. Like Fred I have to take them at their word. I have no problem with people who love them, I personally can't justify the PRICE!!! There are too many great coins out there that require my funds!
