Wow, you people are racking up, cabowabo and Errers! I managed 22 cents today - two clad Roosies, and '64 and '68 LMCs.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Thank you, Hondo Boguss. CoinStar has been pretty dry lately until today. I also found 87 cents not too long ago, but didn't post it on here, because it was all normal coinage.

Quote:As always, he checks the Coinstar reject bin for me and he found 5 40% Kennedy half dollars, along with a 1974 Kennedy half dollar, and other normal coinage. Free silver is great! Fantastic!

OK, here's a question for everyone...
I understand why certain things would end up in the Coinstar reject tray -- foreign coins, tokens, damaged coins, steel cents, and (maybe) silver.
But why do perfectly good modern pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters end up there so often? For example, my last haul was 31 coins, of which 29 had no likely reason not to be accepted.
Any thoughts? Not that I'm complaining; just wondering.

My take? Machines are not perfect. Neither are coins (weight and size tolerances). When the two imperfections line up... rejects happen.

Its laziness at times. They got "most of it" totalled on their ticket and don't want to be bothered with reaching into the rejection bin.
