1957-D Lincoln Wheat Cent / LWC Question About Doubling...

amnight Valued Member United States 332 Posts	Posted 11/28/2014 10:49 pm There is some doubling on this coin, specifically on the 1,9,7(maybe), and the chin/lips/tie areas. I wanted to know if this is Mechanical Doubling, which it looks like. But, usually when I see this it comes with doubling on the mint mark and there is none. AMB Pillar of the Community United States 801 Posts	Posted 11/29/2014 12:19 am I'm no expert and even a bit reluctant to comment but because the doubling also extends to Abe's chin-mouth-nose and tie...I'd lean toward Machine Doubling and not HUB. MD has nothing to do with how the die was made or when the MM was added....it is a result of the bouncing of the die during the coining process. Report this Post to the Staff

The die is a normal die, but with movement during the strike of the dies, the coin has machine damage because the coin is held firmly in place with the collar. Report this Post to the Staff
