Interesting. I don't feel this is a hitchhiker though because it appears that this is from within this coin itself. As if the inside got squished out and wrapped around to the obverse surface.

I believe that it is a folded over Rim Fin.

Not educated on what a fin is but whatever this is got folded over to the surface, I agree.

Looks more like debris of copper that got struck onto the coin. Note how it is taller than the other part of the rim?
