Definitely a great up grade, your old one looked like she had seen better days. The new coin should go AU 53 details with a minor rim bump and cleaning. She is a really nice just pre civil war piece.

Very nice upgrade - sorry no idea on grade - but she's so lovely I had to congratulate you!

Quote: She is a really nice just pre civil war piece. You can almost imagine the "Old" 1860 O SL Half displayed stopping a bullet and saving some fortunate guy's life in a Civil War battle! (It kind of looks like it sustained some damage of that type...)

I'll say AU58 on this upgrade. Probably cleaned but not many haven't been. Very nice pick.

My grading guess was way off apparently, but it is a nice-looking coin :) Oh, and VG-10 damaged on the sad one

Tough to find original surfaced Seated coins anymore, most were cleaned at one point in the past 120+ years. A super upgrade piece!!

Favor? Have a look at the vertical lines in the shield for me. If it's there, you'll know it without me telling you what to look for.

Quote: Have a look at the vertical lines in the shield for me. A bit cryptic, my brother! Are you asking about Obverse or Reverse shield? (Edited to add: Ahhh.. the possibility of re-engraved vertical stripes on the WB-102 reverse shield! Good knowledge Mr. Dave!))

I don't see it, I also don't think there are any MS examples found yet that I know of, though I have not done much study on Seated coinage yet. (Too many different series and too much money)

Quote: Have a look at the vertical lines in the shield for me. Unfortunately, there's some PMD but if you look at the 2nd stripe (from left), and the 5th stripe (from left) there's some weird vertical stuff going on. Dave, is this what you were referring to? (I understand if this coin does have that re-engraved vertical striping it's a WB-102 reverse...) Thoughts? (I tried to make the shield picture as big as possible... Thank you PhotoBucket!)

Additional information: This is the reverse and a blow-up of the shield of an MS-61 1860 O WB-102 Seated Liberty half dollar sold on Heritage. The upper right part of the shield looks an awful lot like the upper right part of my coin's shield. The 2 and 5 vertical stripes also seem to match up with their weird looking lines. Thoughts?
