Found it! it is a Malawi 1 Tambala coin from 1994.

thai-vic, you are correct, it is indeed a Grouse, or a "Tiur" as they are known in Norwegian.

The 1953 and 1959 10 Sen coin from Cambodia has a nice rooster on it. I'll bet she would like to have a 1897-1914 France gold 20 francs as a pendant.
