It's strange to me that TPGs will slab error coins as "No date", but refuse to slab other coins as such. Congrats on the cool coin though, definitely the ultimate lowball right there!

Nice! I have to admit, after reading your various threads, I have included lowballs into my searching. Havnt found one yet that I just had to have, but I'm searching!

You can see part of the "8" in the date. That's good enough for me to say it is what it is.

Wow! Learned something new today that I never considered. I still couldn't see a date, but obviously PCGS could. Congrats

That's really cool to have the only one! Congrats. What is your interest in low ball coins? I don't collect them but would assume its all about the character a coin develops after years of history going by.

Isn't it cool to have the only one on the registry? Albeit it is the lo-ball, a specialized collector coin. I have a couple of one pop varieity coins.
No surprise that there is no value posted at PCGS...priceless?
Although I cannot see the date, it has to be a different story in hand.
Congrats!

Congrats on owning the only one of its kind. I have a question. How can they tell its a 1918s? It's so worn.

I love that walker. Congratulations for having a pop-1 coin! PO-01 is a hard, hard grade to get for walkers.

Many Thanks for all the kind words about this coin ... the first ever PCGS PO01 Walker. Quote: I have a question. How can they tell its a 1918s? This question has been posed in various forms by several folks ... allow me to address ... In order for a TPG to certify a well worn coin (any coin) ... there are five check boxes that need to be satisfied: The coin needs to be uniquely identifiable as to type, date and mint mark. In addition ... the coin needs to be free of damage and have original (un-molested) surfaces. This is obviously a San Francisco mint Walker. In hand ... holding the coin at just the right angle to a light ... one can make out the very top remnants of the '18' in the date. My digital photography skills are not sufficient to make the date remnant apparent. Also ... the coin is undamaged with original circulated surfaces. Hence ... 1918-S Walker. BTW ... I purchased this coin for $8.50 on the Bay ... seller advertised as an 'un-dated' Walker ... I took a chance on it with 14-day return. In hand I knew this was at least FR02. That decision has worked out for me. David
