Quote:Btw, RCM minted also 1.5oz Maple Leaf, which looks very cool, really. But with the given fact that I prefer to reduce coin expenses and prefer not to add additional milk spots to collection - will pass over it. Silveroid - It would be neat to have all the 1.5 ounce coins as a set, possibly later if you see one without spots you may decide to have all the 1.5 ounce coins in the O'Canada Box, this Maple Leaf 1.5 which is a nice design - reminds me of the Maple Leaf Forever set - will fill the row with Fox, Polar Bear, and Polar Bear and Cub. RCM will likely continue to produce these 1.5 ounce coins into the future and the likelihood of having a 12 coin box would be good, a cool inexpensive set (if you could find them all spot free or if they find a way to fix that issue). NorthernCoins - nice collection, especially the Gold! What year is your Somali Elephant? What size is that chunky Libertad? Nice fractional ASE's.

@northern coins
Love the 5oz libertad!! Libertads are my favorite Hey there is nothing wrong with junk silver. Junk silver can usually be purchased for spot.....which is a bonus because some bullion has a hefty premium. Also the guy at my LCS hates bullion haha. He doesn't trust it because of the amount of counterfeiting out there of bullion. But he will buy and trade Canada and USA junk silver anyday. Bought lots off of him and it was never so dirty that my hands turned black....you must of got a bad group or something......I usually clean my junk silver if its bad. Cheers

Many collectors go through the junk silver looking for varieties and sometimes you find a "gem in the rough", good coins sometimes get mixed in with junk silver and you hear of nice finds in the junk bucket at coin shops. I found this 1964 50 cent coin in my LCS junk box and snapped up a PL-63 ish (as graded by the gang here). Score. 5 oz Libertad, nice and chunky, I have not pulled the plug on buying a five ounce coin yet. An expensive coaster to put under your coffee in the morning. Thanks Solidifier; Some people use the hawthorn tree thorns to clean the gunk off junk silver.

@silverdon that's a nice 64 find. I have purchased 1965 & 1966 uncirculated sets for bullion price. They are so common doesn't seem to matter what the grade is you can get them for spot
I always go through my junk silver buys to see if there us any varieties or something before I dip them. Even if I do find a variety they are usually so worn, don't think they would be worth more but I have a little tube I put them in. Don't wanna dip those

The Big Libertad is 2013 5 oz , I had 5 of them sold 2 and traded two for some carpenter work, my Carpenter friend likes silver and gold too The Elephant is 2013. The Fractionals are walking liberty from the golden mint, I have a few tubes of those. The 1oz is a real 2013 ASE. Have a bunch of those as with the 1oz 2013 Libertads.

Oh the Coin Shoppe has some 2014 5oz as well and its Canadian. http://www.thecoinshoppe.ca/2014-5-...libertad-bu/

So there are many ways to enjoy coin collecting in this day and be satisfied of a good purchase with bullion, rounds, coins, junk silver, Privy and Special Edition coins, nobody put up a coloured Silver Maple Leaf Coin, or hologram, there are so many. Some Privy marks are extremely rare (2005 Tulip Mintage 3,500 is going for $200 for a 1 ounce bullion coin)and command a good premium. Then there are the combination Proof version or Replica versions of bullion coins that I really don't collect as I find it very difficult to pay the mark up for the proof version - but some collectors like to display the Proof and Bullion versions side by each. Many ways to participate in the numismatic hobby without paying an arm or leg for individual coins. Even $30 a month for an ounce, with care in what you buy - as it becomes available is the best option, you may have a nice little collection in the end. I agree, Yingyang, nice SD Reg $179 at CA good snag. Solidifier - I wonder how much 1965 and 1966 silver was melted, no way to predict the numbers in terms of survival rate but it would seem smart to have a few of those sets put away just for posterity and the low cost. I have '63 PL set and am looking at picking up a few more. Easy to find rolls of UNC dollars, at near bullion prices.

I think the lower mintages on the Canadian silvers makes them even more collectible, moreso over the ASE with production to demand. The Canadian silvers are my favorite!
