NOOOOoooo - only 150,000 1900 NL halves made and it has to become a ring?
The rings are great...but what was this guy thinking?! Or was he?

Even worse, here is an ebayer making a business of using NL halves

Cool ring Bobby!

I really hate this but some common dates can be cool. Or State Quarters of the state you were born in.

There's a guy here in the Vancouver area who makes these and sells them on Craigslist. Pretty cool

That coin compass is so cool....

I sort of have a love/hate relationship with jewelry made out of coins. I feel bad about the coins but then ....the jewelry is so cool....

off topic, but the family has been salvaging buildings since the 1950s,

no joke, waaaaaay back in the day we used to smash them to get the lead...

nobody wanted a window you couldn't see through.

the rings are pretty cool. But using older, low grade pieces that are not as scarce would probably a better idea.

But just out of curiosity, isn't this considering altering money? can't they get in trouble for it?

I agree, coins considered junk would be best for doing this. Instead of getting (possibly) melted down they will be turned into an artwork.

The one with the large cent wrapped around a silver ring is quite impressive.

After careful deliberation, I bought a 1964 50 cent piece in proof-like condition and sent it in to a guy in Toronto who advertises at Colonial Acres.

The ring turned out very nice and exactly as illustrated.
As a collector I also wrestled with the idea that I was contributing to the mutilation of Canadian coins.

Fact of the matter is that tons of silver coins get melted every week. At least this one will be on my finger for a long time.

I am considering perhaps getting a silver Kennedy half or some other decorative coin done in the future. This time however, I won't worry so much about selecting a high grade coin so long as the details are sharp.
