Precisely why I bought it for the price I did. It is not a copper nickel IHC, it is bronze with L. I will get some close ups on the questionable spots on the obverse when I get home. I willl also post the ebay link. The L is clearly visible, and this is definitely not CN. Wish it was though, would have been a nice with the L. |

I'll say high end AU, the reverse looks MS but the obverse could have some rub on the high points, looking forward to seeing your photos once it's in hand, a great deal I think.

Apologies. I took your initial statement of "no indication of L" to mean you did not see it, but clearly you meant the listing did not disclose it.
Anyway, I still cannot see the L with these aging eyes - perhaps you could give us a close-up of the ribbon.

L is plainly visible. Great pickup.
I'm at 63BN.
Looks like a couple die cracks coming off the shield too.

No indications of cleaning. "Woody Grain" is nice patination, and I love nice cents with this look. The three small spots of corrosion on the obverse appear to have stopped their spread and have clearly defined separations from the proximate fields.
However, I'm seeing the lightest rub at the 2nd diamond on the ribbon and the tips of the second and third feather tip.
That might just be the photo, though.
I'll certainly check back to see any other photos you post.
For now, I'd have to be in at AU 58. If I'm seeing the rub wrong, then 63.
An all natural beauty, regardless.

Look at the left lower side of the shield going to the O of ONE.
That's why I think it's a die crack.
Could be wrong though.

Here are a few more pics.....clearly showing the "L". There are a few very minor spots where there is a slight bit of corrosions starting, but this was a heck of a deal. I have the advantage of seeing the coin in hand.....I call it an AU58....very close to MS.   Also....here is the link to the purchase.....I could see the "L", which is why I went for it. Nice pickup! My guess is MS-63 BN, although I am terrible at grading AU-55 and up Indian cents from pictures. |
