I tend to agree - something is amiss here. That would normally be a $1500 coin... The seller has legit low-end stuff, interspersed with rarities at high grades...

The scary question is... would ICCS or CCCS be fooled by this one as well? I would be curious to see if it would XRF at .800 silver.

The vertical beads is what I notice. When poorly struck they appear flattened but round at least. OP coin (right) they look square. I'm no expert, just what I see. Could be the image.

Great images. I'm certainly skeptical.

I really like that detail in the vertical beads between the right and left photo..

Very noticeable when brought to our attention here.. Thanks...

I have noticed something on these 'new age' fakes.

There appears to be very tiny raised dots on the surface.

Look in the above posted picture in the fields above the crown.

Also, look at the seller's picture of the obverse right under the E of 'ET'.

Maybe it's nothing or maybe it could be a key indicator, I don't know.

High magnification is definitely needed though.

I have noticed the same feature on his world coins too.

I apologize for my delay in commenting but my life is a tad complicated.
Here is my take on it. I have preached for years .......see what is there! Or in this case. What is not there. Typical of Asian counterfeits is minute detail loss blending into the fields. Have a look at this? Thoughts? There are the easiest markers to quickly identify this fake. Impossible to tumble out. Notice I did not wait to publish before I shared! Mike Marshall

Good eye Mike, you would make a pretty good geologist... lol ... now, if you could only catch the big Walleye like you catch the counterfeits!! We need to win the boat one of these years!!

The 'S' in CENTS is quite different too.

With the counterfeit the 'S' looks 'closed or slightly fat, whereas with the genuine 'S', there seems to be more openness with the letter.

I believe this is the reverse of the exact coin. Sold for $546 on Heritage August 2010, PCGS AU58.

Heritage coin on the left, subject coin on the right. I can point to maybe a dozen more marks on the reverse that match. So, the question is, was this coin bought in order to produce dies, or is the seller just trying to unload it? I'm not seeing matches on the obverse.

Edit: Thinking about it, the obverse die could have been created from many years, so tracking that down will take some work.

The obv die could be any year using that image. The rev die they tend to use an image of a real coin. That way they only need 1 obv die to make the entire effigy run. Nice work both of you.

Yes, I gave up trying to find the obverse original. I tried going through Heritage for sales around that time in 2010 and figured the distinctive dings across the cheek might make it easy, but obviously they could just pick up any George V AU58-MS63 obverse from anywhere. Clearly (to me), the reverse matches the Heritage coin but the obverse does not. I wonder if Heritage has any interest in tracking down the buyer of the coin I posted. Heck, it's listed as "make offer to owner" - that could be fun!
