I looked at scopes there and on Amazon, came back to ccf for more research. (At this point, I think I've read almost every scope thread here. A lot of info, but no hard numbers -- like ideal megapixel rating, magnification factors for different usages.) I ended up reading up on this from a ccf thread: http://www.instructables.com/id/10-...on/?ALLSTEPS. It looks like a fun project, so I'll give that a shot. Worst case scenario, I'll get one from Amazon through a friend with the Amazon credit card that gives 5% back.

I was leaning towards Lincoln too, just because of mintage figures. I think the Yellowstone has better estimated values on PCGS and NCG though. Roll the dice and hope for a 70 grade there?

Can't do the ASE ornament. It's cross-listed in the coin section, so the credit would not work there. I appreciate the thought though! I only saw the old Sacagawea dollar ornaments listed under collectables, but that's not a series that really interests me, and that's something I'd expect to see for a few bucks at a Goodwill.

There's silver in exonumia on the bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-SILVER...AOSw4A5YudM4

And many more... you just have to keep scrolling and scrolling... but there's some cool stuff there.

Or maybe I could list a Morgan dollar for $30 as a collectible?.... If that's even allowed..

Find anything for $30.00 that you like in coins and paper money. Write the seller and ask them to change the category for you and you'll buy it now. LOL

@Buddy Thanks for the tip. I went and poked around there, but then I realized that the categorization went "Coins & Paper Money > Exonumia > Medals," so that work around is out.

@Coin197/TheNickelGuy I was thinking about that, but I don't want to explicitly ask anyone here to break ebay's rules, even though the listings as collectible are at least plausible. (I also did take a look at your listings, Coin, and you're fresh out of stock.) I may just end up with my first commemorative coin. I just wish the reverse of the Lincoln wasn't so artistically lacking.

How about a coin reference book.
A new RedBook or something.

We should complain to ebay about gift cards not being usable in the coins category.

Grrrrr.

I guess it's time to start collecting fossils or arrowheads....

NSS-52 thanks for the heads up on that. I will never buy an ebay gift card now.. you used to be able to spend them on coins. That makes no sense to exclude coins. You can still spend ebay bucks on coins (not bullion though) but I'm sure they will change that too.

Well, I don't collect them, but I do have an interest in fossils. My first search yesterday was "mammoth fossil" -- it turns out thirty bucks won't do much in terms of getting a halfway decent mammoth fossil, but it will get you some hair!

I do wonder if there are any fossil collectors or rockhounds on ccf.

How about a Lucite "paperweight"

Beware the shipping charges on these as some of them are heavy.

Most are BIN but if they don't sell you could message the seller and ask them to list it in a different category with a BIN and make the deal.

I never understood the purpose of a paperweight. My office isn't particularly windy and I wouldn't mind if some of my stacks of work just blew away. I guess this is more of a nicknack? Looks cool.

Yes, there are.

But my collection is small and practically worthless -- except for some arrowheads which aren't even worth the price of a night on the town.

Update:

Yellowstone Park seller didn't want to budge on price.

Abraham Lincoln seller is a go, but he hasn't gotten a sharp obverse shot. (I might see two marks in his fuzz picture.)

And I seem to have missed out on either stolen or fake Silver Kookaburras.
