I've seen AU-58 graded examples with more loss of detail on the tail feathers and wing tips. However, the deep patina on this one seems to have muted the luster which should lower the overall grade.
AU-53 seems reasonable, maybe even a bit conservative. Very nice type coin!

Thank you all for your opinions. I am glad to see that public consensus has this coin in the AU range and most agree that it is original. I think I may send this in to NGC. I will definitely update you all if I do. Anyone want to take a stab at what I paid? (Good deal IMO)

I'll guess you paid $150.

Am I the only one missing the possibility that this may be a 1892 O? I clearly see a mintmark resembling an O in both pics, it's the tarnish partly obscuring it

I see what you are pointing out. I think it is tarnish that resembles a mm, not an actual mm.

Alphaomega- I see what you are refering to, but in hand it is clear that it is not an "O". Here is a super xlose up of the MM area.

I will say you paid $250. I don't see a mint mark. If slabbed with Au50, it could easily worth $400+.

Numismatic_student nailed the price to the dollar. i paid $150 for this coin, and I considered that a good deal. Once again I appreciate everyone's input and will update you all if I do end up submitting this to a TPG.
