3 Less Common Oak Ridge Irradiated Silver Dime Holders

Based on precedent, it is the right forum if it is a Mercury dime in the holder. There are some previous posts here, while there Roosevelt dimes on the US Modern forum.

These are certainly an issue which can span multiple fora, but we tend to default to the coin rather than the holder.

I was born and raised in Oak Ridge. My dad worked for Y-12 for 30+ years and several family members worked for K-25, X-10 and the National Laboratory. Went to the Museum many times and had my "hair raised" and they gave away the dimes there also. I wish I had kept the ones I had as a child!

Finally got the pic to load. Now I gotta work on the rosevelt one that says ornl ucnc oak ridge. Wish me luck

Hi! I have the exact dime and it must be a rare combo for that year in that holder because this post is the only exact match on the Google. Anybody have any info on price or where to sell it? I'm not a coin person, I found it in the trash! I would like to get it to someone that will appreciate it. Thanks!

ebay prices are variable, but I see some Buy it now for $20.

It is definitely an interesting collectible-I have a few. You did well to rescue it from the trash.

Interesting. I hadn't seen the Mid-South Fair exhibit one before, nor the final large blue plastic one (I have seen the Worlds Fair one). And I don't believe I've seen the ORNL - UCNC one. Of the the American Museum, and national laboratory pieces there are four varieties as they come with black or blue lettering. So that makes 7 varieties in total. I also have an original cardboard holder intended to hold the metal and plastic encased ones. It is from the American Museum and my holder has a blue lettered encasement. I can say that the American Museum had the irradiator until the summer of 1967 as that was when I visited there and I irradiated some dimes at that time.
