Pretty close. In-hand the tint is more gray and less green/brown.

The coin shop where it was purchased for the raffle rated it "VF". I agree a complete LIBERTY on a seated half is no longer required for a VF grade from, say, PCGS. Evidence of "gradeflation", perhaps?

Here's my 1877-CC half which I sent to PCGS around 10 years ago. In spite of the incomplete LIBERTY they graded it VF-25. My new 1876-S has similar obverse detail and a stronger reverse. So, by PCGS standards at least it should qualify for some kind of "VF".

Given the typical uneven strike of this issue, I'm fairly certain the lack of detail on LIBERTY is because of that uneven strike, as would be the center details on the reverse.

Eye Appeal 4/10.

Certainly a great FREE coin. Congratulations.

This coin is a solid 30. Like many 1876 San Fran issues, the coin is emblematic of the ongoing strife and discord at the SF Mint (reflected in the shield's uneven strike)

It is worth reading up regarding the SF Mint quality control issues on the 1876-S Liberty Seated issues. The employees' workmanship ranged from "mediocre" to "marginally acceptable" to "my 5 year old could have done a better job" -- a recent Numismatist article suggested sabotage by Mint employees for political and personal reasons may have also been at play. Coins were struck with little regard for matching previously used die pairs, causing weird die wear mismatches; the minting process was careless and haphazard for the better part of production and there were many quality control issues with the striking in general (e.g. misadjustment, weak and uneven strikes, and poorly prepared dies - pitted, damaged, overpolished, hastily tooled/reworked, etc...)
