Well, the reverse looks completely normal. No damage at all.  I'm not sure if it left the mint like that or if it was damaged later. |

It sure looks like it was on some kind of lathe. But regardless, it didn't happen at the mint.

It's a user error. Someone did that on purpose. That coin is worth 1 cent. Spend it.

AGREE: Spend it, throw it back into the wild with hopes it lands in the hands of some inquisitive youngster who will want to know more about it and it leads to a lifelong interest! I do the same thing with Wheaties & your occasional ugly IHC. I haven't found an Indian Head in twenty five years. Find silver coins once in a blue moon - usually a dime. Its kind of neat to get some of them back in the mix. |

I put $2 bill into circulation :) love seeing people getting them and looking at them and then put them to the side to save.

hfjacinto, my next 1877 IHC will be put in the mail to you!  Do the banks still have $2 bills to hand out? Years ago I'd go to garage sales and pay in the gold Presidential dollar coins... they made people's day! |

The local banks have $2 bills. I get $10 worth when I go in which isn't that often. Once while counting I see red lettering on the $2 bill, the teller took those out and put them on the side. I think she kept those for herself :(
If I find and 1916d I'll send that one to you :)

Went to my local bank to get $2 bills for my nieces & nephews Christmas gift. They had about 20 or so tucked away. I don't like the most recent $ 2.00 compared to the old Red Seals.
