Wow... to watch all this happen feels like being a part of history!

As I mentioned previously, the colonial marketplace has lost a few of the big gun collectors in the past few years, if Sydney F. Martin, Donald G. Partrick, or Robert Martin, were still around and if Christopher Salmon was still building his set of New England silver (he sold his March 2023) we might have seen a real battle doubling the price it ended up at. So who purchased it? Deloy Hansen perhaps? Maybe Ian Russell of Great Collections or the Tyrant, tech billionaire Dan O'Dowd?
I believe John Kraljevich was the "John" being referred to during the auction by auctioneer Ben Orooji, though it could have also been John Pack (Stack's executive consignment director), John was manning the phone with the eventual winning bidder from what I could tell over the video feed. I got lucky to be able to watch it as I checked as soon as I went to lunch and they were only 3 lots away from the 3 pence. It was so neat to be able to watch it live from my phone, technology sure has changed how we attend and view coin auctions today.
I received an email from Larsjan a couple of weeks ago and was able to help him with some scans of various articles and blurbs about this auction and coin for posterity. I hope he is pleased with the journey he took with the coin and it's eventual passing to a new owner.
Also congratulations to the winner of the CCF contest; nickrulercreator (a new member with only 44 posts) - he was only $23,000 away from the correct price, something good in the water in Boulder, Co (I worked there at a coin store at one point in my life), and of course a huge thanks to GMS4 for hosting the contest and giving away 2 Canadian silver Maple Leaf coins. Good on both of you, thanks for making a fun event of this.

I've been following and involved in this saga since the beginning 4½ years ago. I've been occupied with other things than coins for a while, and had forgotten about this, until last night when the news of the sale popped up on my newsfeed! I was elated, and spent an hour last night, and another hour today on here catching up on what I had missed (about 25 pages). I, like many others, hope it does indeed end up in a museum. I would very much like to be able to see it in person some day, and know that I was - even in a miniscule way - involved in this story! What an incredible ride this has been! Absolute congratulations to larsjan!

This is great news and congratulations Larsjan I watched the Youtube video and wished the auctioneer was a bit more animated. Maybe like the announcer in a WWF wrestling match. OK, maybe that's a bit too much.

If I recall correctly, Heritage told him to take a hike. While SB most assuredly could have represented the rarity better, they did stick it out with Larsjan to the end. For that they deserve some respect.

They must print the Red Book pretty far in advance. My 2025 edition is still showing the threepence as "unique", with no mention of the auction.

"If I recall correctly, Heritage told him to take a hike." Is this true, why would Heritage do this? I was considering consigning some items to HA and this may affect my decision.

jimbucks - look thru the first dozen or so pages. If memory serves, I believe Heritage wasn't interested in the legwork required - told him to go to TPG directly. Stacks took the ball and ran, handled everything.

Docc, I will go with that on faith. I have always gone with GC since they take care of these things. I wonder if the seller touched base with GC prior to committing to SB.

The "current" Red Book is released in the spring the year before its cover date, with the data in it being compiled several months ahead of that. That being said, the 2025 Red Book was released in spring 2024 with data coming from late 2023. Hopefully the 2026 edition being released in a few months will have picked up on this, if not, then the 2027 editions should.

Confirming DOCC's recollection, I approached those two US auction houses with a group of Canadian rarities last month just to see how their fees and services would compare against the two main Canadian auction houses. HA said great, they'd love to handle them, call us back after you've had them TPG'd. Stack's said excellent, send them in and we'll take care of all the TPG business and delete the PCGS charges after the auction.
I never pay too much for my tokens...but every now and then I may buy one a little too soon.
