I looked over his offer of Barber dimes.
Many were "improperly cleaned."
Overpriced to boot.
He is not to be dealt with.

Hey guys.

I actually know the seller in question, actually, I work for him.

I'm not denying he overprices things, especially when it comes to cleaned coins. I will note however this listing is 8 years old, and the price hasn't been changed during that time. Usually in these situations Julian can be amenable. I'll send him a text and ask for a price revision.

GSA soft packs on ebay generally run a minimum of $75 and go up from there. This one seems way over priced.

That's still overpriced. The GSA moniker really means nothing. An AU-58 Morgan is an AU-58 Morgan. But you do get that cool beer chip, though...

Ok, I do not understand this? If it has been for sale for 8 years at this price then it sounds like he doesn't want to sell it. If he doesn't want to sell it then why keep posting it? I have seen many sellers on ebay that keep reposting the same coins at the same price for months if not years. My question is WHY? Are they waiting for gullible buyers? Are they waiting for the price to eventually rise to the value for what they are trying to sell it for? Can someone please explain this to me?

GSA Soft Packs are a niche collectible. It isn't about the coin. It's about the history of the GSA sale and its importance to coin collecting. I've been at this 45 years now, and IIRC, I've only handled two or three soft packs in that time. They weren't popular at the time, and many were opened on the spot. They are scarce today.

Trust me, he does want to sell it. He's a serious old timer who doesn't like to admit prices have gone down over the years. Basically sometimes we just wait for the right buyer. A few months ago somebody bought something he'd had for sale since 1986. Granted it wasn't on ebay till the mid 2000's but it sold in November after a few decades at near full asking price.

Jeez, here's another one.

Sorry, but this one falls on you. That's a fair price. Look at the label. It's VAM 14.6, which is quite rare. Not trying to sound snide, but with some series you need to be well informed on them before making statements on prices. Large cents and Half Cents are another great example of this.

That may be so, but it was stated that the price hadn't been changed in all that time. I pointed out 3 changes to the Buy it Now price in the last 4 months.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is that market value isn't only about the coin. People pay outrageous prices for some coins in sample slabs, older style slabs, coins with original Government packaging, & even bullion coins that are designated as first strike. I don't buy into it myself but that doesn't alter reality.

Sorry, I had initially missed that. I wanted to wait to reply until I had a response from Julian, buttttt as he's said nothing so far I'll respond anyway. The only reason that he may have done that is when silver and gold jumped we have a script that will select all coins made from a specific metal composition and change the prices according to how spot changes. When prices jumped it's likely that either Julian or Alex (our manager) executed the script to adjust the prices of our inventory. As we have tens of thousands of listings it would be near impossible to do by hand. It's very rare we make individual revisions unless there's some form of error brought to light.

The only response that I was given is that the 1884-O GSA Soft Pack is extremely scarce, with very few known. Essentially, the coin isn't rare, GSA soft packs in general aren't that rare, however the combination of date and soft pack is and that's why he was asking a premium.

From a personal perspective I think the premium is too high, however that statement does not reflect the policies of Bonanza Coins/Julian Coin and is not an official statement or message.
