Is this guy nuts?!? Should offer the $40 it's worth.

I don't know if he's nuts, but most likely he won't pay you any where near triple digits if you were to walk in to his shop with one just like it you'd like to sell!

I always thought his coins were over-graded and over-priced.

Looks like things haven't changed much.

IMO NGC was generous on its grading which would make your $40 offer a bit generous also.
Describe it as if there were no picture.

I've seen GSA soft packs go for $450 or so. There are rarer than the boxed ones nowadays...

I looked over his offer of Barber dimes.
Many were "improperly cleaned."
Overpriced to boot.
He is not to be dealt with.

Brother, can you spare a "BARBER" dime?

Hey guys.

I actually know the seller in question, actually, I work for him.

I'm not denying he overprices things, especially when it comes to cleaned coins. I will note however this listing is 8 years old, and the price hasn't been changed during that time. Usually in these situations Julian can be amenable. I'll send him a text and ask for a price revision.

GSA soft packs on eBay generally run a minimum of $75 and go up from there. This one seems way over priced.

That's still overpriced. The GSA moniker really means nothing. An AU-58 Morgan is an AU-58 Morgan. But you do get that cool beer chip, though...

Ok, I do not understand this? If it has been for sale for 8 years at this price then it sounds like he doesn't want to sell it. If he doesn't want to sell it then why keep posting it? I have seen many sellers on EBay that keep reposting the same coins at the same price for months if not years. My question is WHY? Are they waiting for gullible buyers? Are they waiting for the price to eventually rise to the value for what they are trying to sell it for? Can someone please explain this to me?

GSA Soft Packs are a niche collectible. It isn't about the coin. It's about the history of the GSA sale and its importance to coin collecting. I've been at this 45 years now, and IIRC, I've only handled two or three soft packs in that time. They weren't popular at the time, and many were opened on the spot. They are scarce today.

Trust me, he does want to sell it. He's a serious old timer who doesn't like to admit prices have gone down over the years. Basically sometimes we just wait for the right buyer. A few months ago somebody bought something he'd had for sale since 1986. Granted it wasn't on eBay till the mid 2000's but it sold in November after a few decades at near full asking price.

Jeez, here's another one.

Sorry, but this one falls on you. That's a fair price. Look at the label. It's VAM 14.6, which is quite rare. Not trying to sound snide, but with some series you need to be well informed on them before making statements on prices. Large cents and Half Cents are another great example of this.
