Now that the cat is out of the bag on the similar looking Heymikep coin, want to share some thoughts on grading this coin. Generally when looking at Seated halves, I'm looking at the right thigh of liberty, then the breasts and the cheek for wear. The obverse of this coin shows many hits, but not a lot of wear. If you look at the xf40 plate coin for PCGS, you will see a right thigh that is worn smooth. This coin appears to have three hits on the thigh, but no wear. Remember this is a circulated coin, not a mint state coin that grades primarily on hits. Circs grade mostly on wear. The breasts show rub at the high points, nothing visible at the cheek. Great hair detail. Stars are struck up and split for the most part. The reverse looks nice with fewer hits, nice patina, and great feather detail. Perhaps some weakness at the eagle's right leg and talons. The weakness is only seem in the leg and talons, so it looks like weakness rather than wear because it is so localized which would be a highly unusual wear pattern. Not a lot of rub that I can see. I have it at low AU 50 or 53. Both TPGs are very forgiving of cleaning and hairlines so not too worried about cleaning. Seller does not look like he is handling the coin very carefully in the listing though. |

I'll revise my guess to XF45 (too much obverse detail for 40), but I can't see it higher due to the reverse. I'd like to see some pics of the coin when you have it in hand, maybe there's some luster left.

Curious what your in hand pics will bring, if there's some hidden remaining luster in there. Based on these pics, I just can't get into AU. Reverse looks AU-50, but the obverse holds this to an XF45 IMO, just a few too many heavier contact marks. Still, nice coin.

XF-48. That obverse still has me at XF45, but Bc they are a bit forgiving on these, I think TPG would probably call this an AU-50. |

I just can't get these to 50. The hits keep it back for me. Your coin looks much better than sellers pics showed. Very nice coin!
