Whenever they get to grading them, hopefully they will find 2 coins in one envelope.

Yeah, so the update is that they basically said that we're at an impasse. They had an independent audit of the security footage apparently and it turned up nothing but I don't have the coin. Basically they're not willing to admit guilt and because I have no evidence it was in there I'm SOL.

Scary. You may end up eating the loss, but what if it had been a $5000 coin instead of a very nice Lincoln? Makes me a little nervous about sending something to them.

After reading this earlier, I started to video-tape every coin I return (just one so far). If something goes wrong, at least I have visible proof. I suggest everyone does this too from now on (if you don't already do it).

For extremely valuable coins, you might want to consider the use of a courier. Hand delivered, signed. No nothing "it wasn't in the package".

Hard to prove in this case, but you have submitted enough coins knowingly double checked the package more than twice.

I wish you best of luck, and somehow the missing coin reappears.

Wouldn't matter. If thir video showed no damage to the package and it wasn't found in the package when they opened it they would still just say it wasn't there in the package. And since it never arrived they would not be responsible.

I didn't know PCGS videos all packages being opened. Is that correct or did I misread the posts? If so, that is a good security measure to take.

I hope you can see what they videoed so you find out what's what.

Having never sent coins in for grading myself I cant say that I've experienced that stress first hand but I'm sure I'd be very unnerved. Recording my packing process would be a must. Though from what I gather from previous posts on this thread the only thing that really matters is the unpacking video at the other end.

Someone had mentioned previously about the use of a private courier. How does that work? I understand the concept I think but wouldn't there have to be a third party shipper involved? How does the chain of possession work? Just wondering how the process plays out is all.

They always have, it's just good business practice, and something Heritage and other large companies and TPGs do as well. Maybe even written into their insurance policy to keep the premiums down in cost.

I know when my high school friend started up ICG his whole deal was being completely independent and not having any clue where the coins came from at all, hence every single package went to a independent CPA that opened all the packages and re-holdered the coins into flips with labels to keep anonymity on each coin going through the grading process. I don't know if that's how they still do things since the company sold and moved from Denver to Florida a few years ago. I do know the shipping room both receiving and outgoing was video monitored at all times.

Not sure, but it wouldn't help since I round up to the next ounce, that 3.1g wouldn't be detectable
