An absolute joke of a grade. I'd bet if you resubmitted it again it would straight grade.

Your faith in the TPGs underscores your youth. Chalk up another regrade submission for PCGS, mostly at your expense.

Woooowww. Wasn't expecting that one. I see a couple very light patches of light porosity, nothing even close to warrant a Details designation on EAC........

I think that they got it right , I am seeing corrosion on my big screen monitor .
Looks like someone tried to give this a restoration effort in the past .
Also pretty rough rims at 3 o'clock obverse .

Where the heck do they get VF Details Environmental Damage?

Can you show us pictures of "In hand" slab? Maybe that can help - we all know PCGS pics are way too generous!

Nice coin.
The opinion of PCGS makes the coin easy to buy**, but difficult to sell at the right price.

I can understand why you are upset.
I would have graded it higher, and the 'details' in my opinion are very minor.

If this coin was mine, (none of my coins are slabbed),
I would have just been quietly pleased with what I have, in complete ignorance of a TPG opinion.

When buying a coin, you just have to trust your own judgement on condition, 'details' if any, and price, slabbed or not slabbed.

**In this case, I think you did well with the original purchase, despite PCGS opinion.

I do see some very light porosity but nothing I would call troubling nor that is affecting the coin in a detrimental way. I'd crack and be happy with having a nice EF/AU coin in a market grade, it's VF/EF EAC grade all day long probably, I almost went low end AU pushing into unc. the first time around, but the PCGS photo showed me some things I missed the first time around. Still a beauty of a drapped bust large cent.

Interesting how we all here on coin community can get in general agreement or so, and yeah, quite an interesting lowball from still a nice grading service. The details aspect is quite minor to me compared to the overall eye appeal we are all enjoying. So does the designation 'details environmental damage' actually lower the grade on certain coins at PCGS? Perhaps they originally were thinking what we were thinking on grading, but had to lower the grade due to those designations? Makes one think

from what I understand they take into consideration that the grade they designate dictates pricing which in the past we have seen is not actually the case unless you buy the slab and not the coin.

i see planchet porosity on both sides but imo not enough to details the coin. they need to be a little more forgiving on these draped bust series. there are a couple scratches. maybe that along with the porosity was why they did that OR maybe a rookie grader that doesn't know this series. I see this one as a solid XF45 coin.

Yeah panzaldi, I'm with you on tbe description on this coin not actually needing a details designation. I can see why grapecollects would not be too pleased with this grade. It makes me lean more into your idea that it could be a rookie grader not too familiar with this series.

Well sorry for taking so long to come back. My thoughts were identical to those expressed by the others in here. There's no reason that this should have been detailed. As for the guess on the scratches, the PCGS photos heavily dramatize them. The only real scratch is the one that connects the upper leaves of the wreath which is extremely hard to notice in hand

Obviously pretty borderline since it originally straight graded. I also don't see anything that would warrant an ED designation. It was a waste of a grading fee since it would better as a raw coin than in that holder.

Is it also possible that they meant to give it a 35 instead of a 25 due to human error? Goes without saying that 2 and 3 are next to each other.
And methinks ploppy's idea above might not be such a bad idea

It is a tough grade at VF details. It makes me wonder if the coin previously net graded to VF25. I quit playing the crack out game as the TPG's are too inconsistent and I have often felt they play favorites to some submitters, and the small guys get more than their fair share of the detail grades.

I was warned by a trustworthy local dealer that recently the TPGs have been extra harsh with "details" slabs across the board, and possibly this might be a reaction to them being too lenient in the past.
