Quote: what coin started this set and which one was the last? The first coin that inspired this collection was a 20 cent piece that my dad brought home from his coffee shop in the early 1960's. Apparently early that day a customer used it to pay for a cup of coffee, thinking it was a quarter. Years later, as I upgraded the coins in my set, I sold this coin. Looking back, it's obviously clear that was a big mistake, as I truly wished I saved it for sentimentality. The most recent coin I obtained yesterday, the 1835 Classic Head Half Eagle. While the True View shows a very distracting large dark area on the right obverse field, the seller assured me the separate obverse photo truly represents what the coin looks like in hand. Thanks for asking.

Quote:I must say though, I am a bit confused about how this overall registry set was designed, as in I don't quite get what is/isn't included. There is only the one space for Half Cent and one for large cent, but small cents get the 3 major designs. Anyone able to shed a little light? While PCGS made the final decisions as to what to include, your example does not present any conflict in logic TO ME. The different Half Cent and Large Cent designs all exhibit Liberty on the obverse, where the Flying Eagle cent, Indian Head cent, and Lincoln Cent are night and day tremendously different designs from each other.

Awesome set, congratulations. I also started collecting this set, though without gold, but I am still very, very far from you. Once again, congratulations!

That set, the Basic U.S. Coin Design Set, No Gold, was the set I worked on for decades, and still have. The coins comprising that set are the "core" of many of my sets, such as the one I just completed and my two PCGS Dansco 7070 sets. Thanks for your kind words and that of all other members above.

Amazing! Great job putting this incredible set together. Not sure how I missed it initially. So, what's next? You going to go for a full 1792-Date Type Set? I can tell you (so far) it's been a very fun challenge to do!

Quote: So, what's next? You going to go for a full 1792-Date Type Set? Well, as the hotlink in my "auto-signature" at the bottom of each of my posts indicates, I've also completed the PCGS Registry Dansco 7070 set. To "keep me busy", I've recently completed a Two Cent business strike set, and I'm in the middle of putting together a Proof Franklin Set, and a Standing Lib Quarter FH DATE set (doing a "date" set allows for me to choose the least expensive branch mint for each date, so the project can potentially be accomplished within my budget and also hopefully while I'm alive). Thanks for your kind words! Steve

and what a set! Congrats on finishing it. Your Two Cent collection is superb as well, reminds me of my own except mine was all 66 and mostly all brown, I had no Red coins in it, though a couple of RB coins found their way in. I built mine before the registry sets were a thing, and sadly sold it off to help take care of my Dad when he was alive and battling Parkinson's. Having so many CAC coins is an extra feather in the cap too! Also thanks for leaving detailed notes in your sets, it makes for a much more enjoyable browse.
