I'm not a coin collector like I said earlier we found 11 rolls that was in a wooden box in my mother-in-law's safe when she passed away when she was 85 they were marked wheat pennies I had no idea what a Wheat penny even was until then and I've done nothing probably for about a month but look at them and look them up and watch videos and all that good stuff so anything that looks different or off I asked questions about My mother-in-law was not wanting to put stuff up just to be putting it up I'm assuming that maybe when they quit making these she probably put some up at that point because even her sons didn't know she had them She also had a $20 gold coin that was actually made into a necklace and given to her son along with various other valuables If we would have found these in a coin jar or anywhere else I probably would not have thought twice about it to even look at them but she put them up for a reason and they have been rolled up and sitting in her safe for several several several years now

A damaged coin can't be fixed. They are what they are and right now, it is a melt coin.

It looks like a 1947 D to me that was smooshed.

mutilated cent, value 1 cent. But please, feel free to send it in for grading and attribution, because that's the only way anyone is going to take your word on what it is, if your intent was to sell it or something at any point. Nobody in their right mind is going to buy that looking the way it does. much less pay 1943S copper prices for it.
Heck you'd be lucky if coinstar doesn't reject it at this point!

. Even if it was a 1943 copper cent and I do not think it ever was,it would have no collector value in that condition. John1

If you look at the top of the 4 you can see the top of the 3..I know that it's damaged..I've looked at under microscope, magnifying class..I didn't see it either until I look a lot closer. My mother in law was not a collector more than likely she had put some up when they quit producing them. We have actually discovered quite a few things that were put up. I will say I have learned an awful lot and have found it quite interesting, however I am afraid to spend any change until I give a good inspection..lol Okim a tad bit OCD and I seem to be getting fixated on coins. Thanks everyone for their input I will be posting a few more soon

Quote: .....and I seem to be getting fixated on coins. .... to the Community and the hobby! Your "194x" (or whatever it is) cent is too damaged to be worth anything more than face, or melt, value. If you are determined it's a 1943 cent then go ahead and submit it to ANACS for authentication and grading. At least you'll learn how to submit coins. Treat the grading and postage fees as "tuition" towards your Numismatics degree that you'll never get. I've been studying towards my degree for almost 65 years! I know I will die before I graduate!

Tell you what - send it to ANACS, and if it comes back as a genuine 1943-S, I'll pay all your grading fees.
