First off, OMMs stopped in 1955 or 1956 so can not be that. It looks like a platting issue.

Sorry, two photos didn't post with the original. I was referring to the mint mark specifically though.

At the time of minting, the strike had a bit too much pressure causing the copper plating to split (outside lower curve of D) and now zinc rot is setting in....spender

Not really any need for additional images unless you want the practice.

As mentioned by many, this is a clear case of plating issues and/or zinc rot creating the effect.

Check error-ref.com for a more detailed explanation with images.

So the "rot" is causing the raised line? What exactly do you mean rot? From what I'm used to outside the Coin World, rit usually caves inwards
