@Ham1947, I didn't know that, I don't buy apple products though anyways. So far I'm just taking pictures with my phone of what I see on the screen lol. Working great just as a portable microscope

A MAC user could run Windows natively (its all Intel) at start up or by using programs that allow Windows to run simultaneously on the mac desktop. The Windows programs behave in the system like they are MAC programs - such as using the dock etc.
Windows is a memorization based platform while Apple is menat to be user-intuitive. I prefer the intuitive platform so rarely run Windows except when I run one the one main graphics programs I use since they never made an Apple version. I like it a lot more than Adobe - again - intuitive vs. memorizing everything, and it actually is more powerful in some ways - especially text manipulation which I use a lot of.
If I ever want to upgrade though I am in trouble. For other reasons I will never buy another Apple product new again.
At present I have, and keep up with modern times easily on my 2009 model anyway!

So I have been using my scope now for three months, the largest issue I was having was trying to control the lighting. As far as I knew there was only two light settings. It took me 3 month to realize that there was a little nob to lower lighting right on the side of the scope....don't I feel dumb lol. This will make my life a whole lot easier as the lighting has always made it impossible to see inside the edges of the devices, mayb I should have more thoroughly read the manual:p

There are a few things you could do to improve the lighting on that scope. First, I'd recommend removing the clear plastic shroud. That can only cause problems. Second, adding a ring of diffusion material in front of the light would probably help a lot.

It kinda looks like there is also a cap on that clear plastic end of the scope. If you can remove both do so,if only the cap comes off do that. John1

I tried taking the cap thing off before and it wouldn't budge, I think the plastic casing actually focuses the light. But since I didn't know I could adjust the lighting it's been on max light setting for all my photos. Now that I know I can turn it all the way down it is much better. Has about 8 different lighting settings from the nob and 2 different settings in the menu. I think the cap is supposed to come off. It helps when I'm using bright light as it actually diffuses the lighting it self some how, but when I turn the lighting fully off I think the cap should come off. I'll try it when I get home tonight.
Edit: if the cap does not come off then I will use my desk lamp with a something to filter and defuse the lighting

With these USB scopes that have built-in lighting, the white balance is usually set for that particular LED color. Does the software have a white balance setting that you can adjust? If so, then you might be able to get away with a desk lamp, but if not you may have trouble using anything but the internal LEDs.
I worked with a Celestron scope with similar lights and hood, and found the hood to be cemented on. Some careful wrangling with a vise and it was off, and didn't break, but once gone the lighting got way better. Contrast improved as well since there was reflection of light back from the inside surface of the hood.

Interesting. My laptop is 2013 and my desktop is 2009. No need to update yet and I keep up with everything. Although recently there has been a shift in certificate permissions I had to find a way of working around. Almost got it licked. Never was able to have a PC more than 3-4 years. But...I have a couple of my progeny schooled in computer tech )one works for Disney computer department tech) saying Windows has finally become a stable enough platform to trust. I might be switching sides of the fence for the umpteenth time in my life again when I get a new machine (whenever that will be). I don't like Apples slide backwards into dumbing down "new and improved!" versions of things like their word processor etc. the past 5-6 years or so. Greed kills everything.

I always wonder with stuff like phone's if the companies creat top of the line stuff, and then reverse engineer it to creat less high tech versions. Like if they made the iphone 10 before say the iphone 6 then came out with 30 versions in between. Definitely would be a better market strategy then coming out with something much more advanced then anything currently on the market. But that's a whole other topic lol. I personally have never been a fan of apple products but to each there own. I do like the camera quality they have though.

Been back and forth from one platform to another since the early 90s. Windows relies on memorizing steps to get things done while Macs are designed to try to be intuitive where people can figure out where to go to get things done.
So its easy to see why some people are confused from one system to another. I just want reliability. And until Windows 10, put side by side (and I always used both systems for working and programming anyway - not just a casual internet user), until Windows 10, Microsoft was pathetic comparably for RELIABILITY. On the other hand, until OS X, Macs were overly proprietary and, despite trying to be intuitive, were not that good at being intuitive.
I didn't/don't care the name on the machine or OS. I just want a machine that I can get work done on rather than having to spend more time trying to get the machine to work right so I could get work done. So back and forth over the fence I went.
But...its b/c I was spoiled in the late 80s with a Commodore Amiga computer (again, programmer not just casual user). After the lousy marketing strategy of Commodore killed them off, I spent over a decade wishing for a competent platform (comparably speaking).
The AMIGA was light years (par secs!) ahead of their time, and I still miss some things about them vs. modern platforms. One day we might get back to being as good in some areas as that (now) antique computer tech had!

I miss actual multitasking, powerful intuitive programs that I prefer over today's lame-by-comparison options (structure, layout, and simplicity of use in particular), being able to flip the power switch to turn it off instead of going through menus and choices, being able to easily integrate sounds into any action, truly animated mouse cursors (not just two pictures), oh-so-very-rare crashing, no re-installation of anything ever needed, No Nanny-intensive mindset in the programming compared to time wasting modern, "Are you sure you want to_____?," system customization that puts modern platforms to shame, etc. etc.
