Anyone else noticed that if you spell out Twenty Cent a link is automatically created to a US 20 cent coin. Quote: would be interested to see if you have also kept a record of rotated/upset 20 cent coins I have checked every 2001 and 2014 20 cent coin that has come my way (over 3000 of each) ever since I heard about upsets being found for those years. Slightly upset (10-15 degrees or so) 2001 20 cent coins are pretty common. I never kept a tally because I am only interested in more obviously upset coins like you can find on the 2001 one dollar coin. Never found any upset 2014 at all. So my official count of upset 20 cent coins (greater than say 30 degrees) stands at a big fat 0.

Quote: I have only ever seen a picture of the 1981 with a dot over the R in Australia. That's the holy grail for me. I would love to find one. I'd been looking for one of these for ages but with no luck so when I came across this one for $7 I grabbed it!

Well done on finding one wavy!
I'm not sure why the 2008 gap doesn't get much love either as it's quite a scarce coin.

Regarding the 1981 20cent with the dot above the 'R', is it the Canadian minted 3and a half claw variety or the RAM coin? Still have to look at the date anyway but curious to know which it is, have not heard of this coin either. Cheers.

Looking at the lettering of the picture above, I would say it is a RAM and not Canadian

If David could have your luck! You found a wavy 1966 in 1100 coins, he's done nearly 10k and still not found it!
Sounds great though, what do you do with all the uninteresting 20 cent coins?

Actually I've noodled almost 72,000 20 cent coins of which 1150 were 1966 and one of those 1150 was a wavy. So at the rate David's going he's got another 6 years or so of noodling to do yet!!!

There is a really good post with pics I have seen on here that explains an easier way of deciding Canadian or RAM. The claw is often not very definitive but the lettering on the word Elizabeth needs to be inspected. The RAM has letters that are straight across the bottom but the Canadian has concave bases on the lettering.

Umm... in my Renniks book there are 3 different mintage totals for the 1981 20 cent . 1.. RAM 65.5 mill , 2... Royal Mint Llantrisiant 50 million and Royal Canadian Mint 50 million. ? That is a heck of a lot of 1981 20 cent coins. Second highest mintage is 2008 at 132.90 Million if Renniks is correct.

My 2014 McDonald's book says 165.5M + 50M + 50M. I suspect the 165.5 might be a typo. RAM website says 65.5M. That was in the peak of the space invaders era. A couple of years later the craze ended and 20c coins were melted down.

Quote: That is a heck of a lot of 1981 20 cent coins. That is why there were no 20 cent coins released from 1983-1993. And why everyone has a giant gap in the middle of their circulated 20 cent collection. Ridiculous!
