PSD. Post-Strike Damage. Damage to the coin after it was struck, either at the mint or during wrapping/rolling.

I'm not sure what the exact cause would be.

I don't doubt that you got this straight from the mint, but it's still not a striking error. The coin was damaged by the mint's machinery sometime after striking IMO.

Not an error. It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin.
What you have could not have happened at that time.
Damage is damage whether it happened at the Mint or outside.

Looks like it was damaged in the edge lettering machine to me. probably a traffic jam. generally this level of damage isn't going to happen in a sorting/rolling machine, nor do I think it's PMD from outside the mint. the coin was struck and ten it got significantly jammed up somewhere after the strike, and my guess is I'm going with the edge lettering machine. but I'd think there should be significant evidence of this hang up in the lettering also, if that's how it happened.

Maybe improperly spaced lettering around the edge or something to indicate it happened at that step.

On the business strikes, the coin are struck, then run through a machine to apply the edge lettering in a 2 step process.
Proofs are made with a 3 segmented collar and done along with the strike.

Id' say unless there is something apparently fishy with the edge lettering placement it could have technically happened anywhere in the supply chain though and be inconclusive.

I will get a photo of the edging once I get home from work. Maybe that might help?

to take a picture with another one, side by side both edge lettering starting from the same points and follow it around to see if it gets tighter or further apart.
Either that or if you can do an exploded view picture that shows the edge around the coin face, but that's beyond my technical knowledge on how to do that.
it should be obvious to you when comparing this one to any other Presidential dollar if it's there.

There is nothing in the minting process that will produce this.

I would appreciate being corrected if wrong, but I believe the mint hires out to have the coins rolled. Therefore the shipping of these coins back and forth as well as handling by the company rolling them makes for ample opportunities for damaged coins to come from "mint rolls."

Also, I do get these from the US Mint, not bank rolls.

I can accept it is just damaged.. it is just something I had never seen in opening over $2000 of these coins from mint rolls so posted it.

I absolutely did not go and slam it on a sidewalk to create an error though!!!
